Crystal Palace (H) - Post-Match Thread

For the Laporte sending off, would it have been a sending off offence if he had taken Zaha out when he originally went for the ball?

I know the rules differ inside and outside the box. However, it would be difficult to claim a player with his back to goal 40 yards out is in a clear goal scoring opportunity.

It seems to me that it’s only when Laporte is turned and Zaha is then brought down is it deemed a goal scoring opportunity.

Someone said we've got loads of wingers. We do in that Pep plays lots of players in the wide positions.

But Foden isn't. Although he's the best in the wide left position but that's because he's a world class player.

Mahrez cutting on from the right? He could never do what Sane did on the left. So for me he's not a winger. If we played 442, he'd be the 10.

Grealish pretty much the same. Not quick enough.

The two who I think are wingers are Sterling and Jesus.Torres when he's back too. Although in my view he should be our 9 until such time as we buy a striker.

Our second best striker is Jesus.

Given all that I'd go

Sterling Jesus Foden

Yes I know Raheem is desperately out of form, but playing on the right may reinvigorate him.

And when Torres is fit

Jesus Torres Foden

Where this leaves Mahrez and Grealish I don't know.
Both like to check back , cut inside. Not perhaps the best move against a team narrow & deep as you just play into their numbers.
But then again we have no one with the pace to get behind

Irrespective of how big a **** Marriner was and is or how Palace are a bunch of dirty cynical cunts, we were our own worst enemies. From Laporte fucking up twice, Ederson letting a tame effort in, passing and passing sideways, not bringing the subs on earlier. It was a shit show. Of course Aguero was a legend and was getting injured to often so letting him go was fair enough, but hoping wingers are going to get our goals every season is daft. Why the fuck do we always seem to chase the most obvious? Harry Kane, Lukaku etc don’t we have any scouts? That lad at Fulham Mitrovich (apologies if spelt wrong can’t be asrsed checking) he bangs them in every season, got three again yesterday. Do we always have to chase the bleeding obvious.

We all saw it v Hammers and saw the same set up again today. We STILL haven’t figured out how to break down teams that defend narrow with numbers behind the ball. Any team that wants to get something from a game with us just needs to set up this way. It’s been working for some time now. No point having all the possession etc etc if your opponent scores 1 more goal than you or in some cases isn’t even bothered.
True but we certainly had chances, especially the Rodri shot which would have made it 1-1 and Mahrez header right at the end, add that into some poor first touches by Foden and Kev on the edge of the box which on another day would have led to chances, plus Jesus debatable offside goal, I think we had enough to get something. Not saying that we deserved it because overall we were dogshite!!

It's interesting how people view performances differently. 50/50 from most on Rodri's performance today it seems.

I thought he was good, personally, but watching his effort on their second goal was pretty pathetic. Granted he was probably on fumes at that point.
I generally like Rodri although every few games he does make silly mistakes. I do believe he’s on his own in midfield most of the time as Kev & Bernie are bombing forward so I’m not surprised mistakes creep in when he’s exhausted. Sadly most of our players miss big chances so I’m not going to be critical of that although he should of scored

why would it comfort me, wasn't overly bothered at the time, it's a game shit hapoens, and not arsed now.

But anyone who has seen walkers pace knows he would have caught up to zaha, it is reasonable to assume that
Regardless of the decision being right or wrong the referee is not making any decision based on individual players physical attributes.

So if it was Rodri stood where Walker was would you suggest not a fuckin chance he's catching Zaha so it's a deffo red for Laporte.

What pisses me off is no way does a Palace player get sent off in that situation yesterday.

The first yellow in the game was too late yesterday, there was a bad challenge on the line in front of CB after about 10 minutes unpunished and the keeper was not dealt with early enough.
Ironic how the red card happened in first half stoppage time, talk about cheats dont prosper.

I also thought we didn't help ourselves by continually putting the ball out with ridiculous long shots or passes which went out of play, this allowed Palace to time waste and our Players went mad and played right into their hands.

A very unprofessional performance from us yesterday.

There is a lot of truth in this concerning our worrying recruitment strategy. It seems that if Sky Sports narrative is we should sign Kane or Grealish or Slabhead or Sanchez or Fred then in we go. Daren't think who they state will replace Pep.

There's probably not a lot to add to the 76 pages that has gone before. As incompetent a bunch I think the vast majority of our referees are, I try not use them as a kind of excuse. But that display yesterday by Marriner was mind-bogglingly inept on many levels. The standard of officials in this league is continuing to sink. That said we were poor with much of our passing, although you couldn't fault the effort. Sometimes I wish we'd try to have a shot when an opening presents itself rather than trying to pass the ball into the net. One of those really frustrating displays that you hope doesn't keep repeating itself.

And to the few morons on here who are calling for people like De Bruyne to be sold.....give your heads a fucking wobble and retain some sense of perspective. He's having a rough patch, everyone does. That said, Sterling's is going on longer than most.....

Next.

The problem at the moment for is the form of KDB everything he tries isn't coming off. Give him a rest as Belgium are going to play him to death in the up coming internationals. Also Gundogan for me needs to start games. Yesterday was one of those games. We will get over it

I am starting to think it is time for a rebuild of this team and a new manager since Pep looks like he is out the door in 18 months. As for this season to early to throw in the towel but it feels different from last year when I always felt we had that extra gear I fear we might get left behind.
This is simply revisionist history. There isn't a person on this board who thought we were turning this around let alone winning the title by double digits when we sat 13th after losing to Spurs or even later when we drew at home to West Brom. Pep changed everything by pushing forward Gundogan and the rest is history. Marginals like Laporte red or Foden offside are going against us right now. That can easily change. Nobody much complained about ref decisions when we won 21 on the spin between Dec and March. Pep will try to find solutions as he did last year. And remember, both Chelsea and Scousers still have to come to Etihad.

We actually looked better with 10 men when stones came on, unlucky with that disallowed goal. Get that donkey Laporte out

mahrez has always influenced games more than grealish throughout his whole career. Just look at their goal records mahrez is a top player grealish is very good but nothing more. Crazy to spend 100 mil on him when we already had foden playing lw
Imagine If we bought that money Haaland.
