Greater Manchester had a pretty good day today if you want to check out the numbers in the other thread later.

And on the England hospital patients data discussion here earlier latest England admissions (Sunday) were 739 - down from 860 last week keeping up the trend.

Patients down today on the day and week to week and NW had the biggest falls in patients and ventilator numbers too. And was down on both the most week to week. Though those high deaths today in the region may be a factor.

Parts of it are pretty grim there mate. Covered Bedford in my patch when working out of Cambridge for a couple of years. I think it gets referenced for deprivation a fair bit for Southern England comparisons.

FWIW, I know there are boxers parts too. I was invited for lunch once at the house of the head of the British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin. They were doing OK lol.
Blimey that's news to me. NHS funding is based on deprivation indices and Bedford was always far better off than most of, say, Norfolk and Essex when I worked in the NHS.

That said, it's the dullest county town in England.

I do not entirely agree with that as both England and Scotland HAVE seen a bit of a fall over the past week which is a big fraction of the total UK hospital data.

Admissions in England have fallen over the last 3 days worth of data on admissions V previous week - from 2439 to 2091 - modest but noticeable falls that are happening across most regions.

And in patients fell every single weekday last week and the numbers week to week have increased the gap BELOW the number in last week every day across the weekend even though numbers over the weekend were up by 3. Might well yet reverse but these are hints of numbers in hospital falling I think. Which you would have to expect as case numbers have dropped quite a lot over past 2 weeks.

Same is true in Scotland - these have fallen too over the past week and the gap seems to be increasing there too.

Today there are 753 in hospital - last Tuesday it was 932 and the Tuesday before 917. That looks a significant fall over the past week.

Of course, it may not last but I would say these are hopeful looking numbers.

Over the longer term and in a statistical sense I am sure you are right but the direction for the moment is a bit more hopeful is all I am trying to say.
Yes, but how long until we reach 200 000 cases a day...

Latest ONS data says infection rate of England is 2.02% in the last week they tested. Population of England is about 55 million so that is 1.1million people. Divide that by 7 days = 159,000 infections per day. It has always been the case that the actual infection rate is higher than the official figures (which are only positive PCR tests done by those who ask for them).

Daughter and her school class all have it, gone through them all in a couple of days. Luckily she's not too bad but fuck me it's scary as fuck knowing it's in the house!

Germany has reported a record number of new COVID-19 cases today - as one of the country's top virologists warned that another lockdown would be needed if vaccinations do not quickly accelerate.

The 39,676 cases registered by the Robert Koch Institute surpassed the previous daily record of 37,120 new cases reported on Friday.

Just in time for the Christmas Markets.

The Zoe App records ongoing symptomatic cases daily and daily new cases predicted from these.

Both have been falling for the past week after a period when both were still rising even when cases in the UK had started to fall in the daily reported Gov UK numbers.

Predicted new cases have fallen from around 94K to 75K yesterday. And predicted ongoing infections peaked at a point likely akin to the true number of people with Covid in the UK right now around a week ago after peaking at just over 1.25 million infected people it was down to 1.15 million yesterday,

North West has fallen by a lot and is down from the most infected region of the 12 in the UK to seventh yesterday.

More ZOE detail of the UK regions. the north west numbers and 10 GM boroughs are on the data thread daily.

Yes it is an app but I think it gives a best guess estimate of the ongoing cases in the UK at any time as they have spent a lot of effort refining the accuracy over the past year,

Nice cop out for Ferguson - he was clearly talking about headline figures at the time though.
The most accurate model, Zoe has dropped to 73,000 cases a day.

The region of Veneto, whose capital is Venice, has recorded 931 cases in the last 24 hours, according to Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

French President Emmanuel Macron made his ninth public address on the COVID-19 pandemic last night, and called for more controls
Today, government spokesman Gabriel Attal is reported to have said that "the warning signs are multiplying" and it is "clear" the situation is getting worse

Thats very reassuring as based on an average of 150 deaths a day, the IFR is only 0.09%.

My mum been ill about ten days now. Sounds shocking still. Hope she starts to improve. Has lost a stone and a half in that time and sounded a bit delirious on the phone tonight.

Not that anyone should really need this prod. But if you aren’t yet, get vaccinated.
