GM Weekly Pop Scores after today:~

Borough / Score Today / Score 7 days ago / up or down wk to wk/ Testing is % of local population who have tested positive for Covid over past year.

As ever with Pop scores going up is bad, going down good - the higher the number the better or worse depending on direction moving. The Pop Score is total cases in past week versus 100,000 POPulation to even out the comparison versus size and expected cases based on numbers living there.

Bolton 94 / 117 / Down 23 Testing positive 8.9%

Oldham 92 / 120 Down 28 Testing positive 9.6%

Tameside 86 / 125 / Down 39 Testing positive 8.0%

Manchester 86 / 101 / Down 15 Testing positive 9.4%

Rochdale 81 / 115 / Down 34 Testing positiv\e 9.4%

As you see very good day for everyone. Even Trafford close to going down again after a good week to week fall and catching up to Stockport and Bury. Trafford ate back 4 more from the overall Pop lead on Stockport back to 181.

The lowest scorers in the early days of the pandemic have re-established the old normality as numbers have tumbled.

Oldham had the biggest fall too meaning all 10 boroughs now sub 100.

Weekly cases:- Bury increased its lead to sit on just 115 whilst - at 158 Trafford closed in and retook second. At 168 Stockport ten back now. Rochdale closed in too on 180. Tameside and Salford go sub 200 also at 194 and192 respectively.

Others:- Bolton 272, Manchester 473, Oldham 219. Wigan 231.

So an island nation thousands of miles away from anywhere with a tiny population density is being held up as an example against the UK? How many New Zealands are there globally who have done so well.
Just an example of international excellence in responding to the pandemic. There’s a lot more to the world than the U.K.

Comparing us to New Zealand is pretty much like comparing New Zealand to the Falkland Islands.
I'm not saying your post was remotely, agenda laden. Merely commenting on the jump on after it.
OK mate. No worries. The Kiwis have done brilliantly so far and good luck to them. I was just sharing a bit of good news.

Hopefully, we will get through the next couple of months doing well and that will be the end of any significant restrictions in the U.K.

Zoe just updated:

Suspect Easter might be impacting this too as huge falls reported - which may mean fewer cases or fewer taking part because it is Easter.

Cases down 420 to 3305 - least in many many months.

Northern Ireland going from near top to best in UK in one day - better than North West - is sure evidence not to take this data literally this weekend.

Similar gigantic fall in ongoing case numbers - falling 2737 in one day to 61, 837. It has been falling by a few hundred a day.

I would not take any of this data very seriously this weekend. Has to be impacted in some way by the holiday.

Of course, if not and born out by actual data it is replicating what happened in Israel and we might be around the point in the vaccine programme as they were when their numbers suddenly fell in a big way.

Hard to know if we would replicate that - different countries in many ways. But not impossible. Though wait and see if it carries on after Easter weekend.
Cases have doubled where I live over the last 3 weeks.

Thanks for that information. I always thought the world ended at the South Coast.

My comment was aimed at the follow up comment which I quoted as it was complete and utter bollocks. You could reference South Korea and particularly Vietnam as doing a great job but other than Germany it's a pretty similar situation with Western European nations.

On the theme of good news, it’s been a refreshing change for the BBC to have focussed on young entrepreneurs, over the last couple of days, who have started new businesses during the pandemic. I wish these folks the best of luck.

That's exactly the spirit I read it in, mate.
I do, however, have serious concerns about the possibility of a huge wave when the Anzacs eventually fully open up.
