Coronavirus (2021) thread

My “symptoms”, if you can even call them that, now that I know I’m positive, actually started on Weds evening, but never thought to test as they didn’t seem enough to justify bothering. As I said earlier, I suffer from various allergies, like to the Xmas tree and foliage, so I’m always like this this time of the year, nothing any different. If I’d have had any of the other so called omicron symptoms like fatigue or headaches or cough then I’d have probably had a test but as it was just literally a sniffle then I just didn’t think it’d be covid. I’ve been running, playing football, in the gym etc etc and feel 100% fit as a fiddle.

Weird.
Good to hear! I’m still breathless almost 9 weeks on from testing positive. My illness wasn’t too bad, like a bad virus really for 4/5 days but this breathlessness is a bit of a concern. Walking the dog in this misty air earlier had me gasping when I got back in.

The part that’s concerning is people effectively like me who might carry on as normal for Xmas and mix with parents etc.

The sooner we get some hard data with regards severity of illness the better.
Sorry, but I'm sure you will be sensible but there are many who aren't and even if feeling a little under the weather, not bother to test and then mix happily .

Assume you didn’t have omicron if 9 weeks ago, which I’m hoping is the case that it’s relatively mild illness.

Ive seen you post before mate about yours, it obviously got onto your lungs which fortunately has never happened for me so far in the 2 times I have had covid.

Hope you get back to your best soon pal.

Maybe I didn’t write my post correct way, that’s what I meant when I said like me, as in fuck all symptoms, not that I’m going to carry on as normal.

NHS winter crisis caused by Covid or, could it be something else?

NB. That bed number was smaller in 2020 and is even smaller in 2021, I can’t find a more up to date graph. I will swap in when I do.

Mind you, after 20 months of a pandemic, you’d have thought that the government would have created some more NHS hospital facilities, with more staffing and capacity to avoid further pressure on the NHS. But no, instead, they cut another 5,000 beds, sacked thousands of care home staff with the result that medically fit patients can’t be discharged and have now threatened NHS workers with the sack and let waiting lists reach record levels. And yet, it’s still our fault!!

Another excellent post from you that highlights the real issue we have right now.

No it must have been Delta. Yes it may have done but Dr said it might be 3/4 months recovery time even if not so hopefully will sort. I’ve nicked one of my mums spare ventolin inhalers for the time being :-)

One thing is for sure, and of course I’m not saying it’s same for everyone, but if this is what having 3 jabs and previous bout of delta does for me when I get omicron then I’m living proof that it appears to be far less severe.

With delta I wasn’t particularly poorly but I lost taste and smell for 10 days, had a proper cold and blocked nose, and earache/tinnitus.

Now, absolutely bugger all, can’t believe I’m actually positive.
On a personal level I won't be taking another PCR. If I prove positive by LFT I'll still do my isolation but scan my way through it with more tests. Bollocks to the rest of it from now on.

Just sat here reflecting, and it‘s strange to think these 2 variants are the same “virus”. With delta I knew I had something I’d never experienced before, I wasn’t particularly poorly but just knew there was a virus in my body the likes of which I’d never encountered before. This omicron though just doesn’t feel like that.

I really hope that it proves to be the same through the wider communities.

No, not reported fuck all, why bother. I didn’t report or have a pcr in the summer when I had delta, as long as I know that’s all that matters, and obviously I’m happy to be jabbed so it’s no big deal.
Ha ha, I've never reported LFT's, negative can't be arsed, when positive just booked a pcr,

Same.

Not having some jobsworth prick in a call centre ring up 20 times a day tell me I’m not allowed to go and walk round the block etc if I catch it and feel mostly fine.

If I do get it I wont be going round spitting at grannies or piling into the nearest nightclub and licking all the pint glasses, but I’m not locking myself away in the bedroom for 10 days. I’ll be going out for fresh air at least.

It can all get to fuck now. We need to just move on and stop obsessing.

Anyone who listened to the SA health officials would know that the symptoms of Omicron were proving to be significantly milder. These were the people on the front line who had dealt with Delta and were dealing with Omicron so they knew what they were talking about. They actually sounded quite bemused at our response as we seemed to ignore their real life experience and go with the ridiculous modelling. Looks like their advice is proving to be sound. Fingers crossed everyone.

I was tempted to book a pcr and then just put my symptoms started over a week ago, lol, but thought better of it.

Omicron wasn’t around 9 weeks ago. It’s moved so quickly tho. 1st identified Nov 24th so 3.5 weeks. Even if think it be was in SA for a couple of weeks before being identified it’s only 6 weeks or so.

only hope is a foolish lockdown will sink the government, not that Labour would have done any differently but at least the people might hold them to account.

Quote honestly I am fucking sick to death of this bullshit now. Had a family fall out today because of it. It is emotionally and mentally draining.
I’ve fallen out with my oldest friend over it today. She was supposed to be taking my kids to the panto and a meal tomorrow (she’s their godmother) and has cancelled because she’s scared of getting COVID before Christmas.

I know, hence why i was just being polite by using the word “assume”.
