Looks like Boris and Sage have been gripped by a dose of sanity, no plans for any new restrictions after being briefed by scientist with latest data.

Makes Drakeford and Sturgeon look like overreacting fuss muppets.
I dont think anyone would have listened if they had brought in new restrictions

I had to miss my first game of the season yesterday, lad's girlfriend's parents dropped in from York, first time we've met. Mrs RM said "You go to the football if YOU want" in that way that informs you you're not going anywhere.

Why I hate the festive season, that and pubs not being open long on 25 December (only managed 2 pubs).
I put my foot down with a firm hand! Oi, Mrs H I’m going to football like it or not, btw get yourself something in the Sales, works a treat.

No they wouldn’t stay open unless they wanted to lose their lisence. Are nightclubs, sports events, in Scotland, Wales, Ireland ignoring new restrictions?

Correct. I doubt nightclubs / bars would ever do this unless it was a co-ordinated national movement as there is obviously no way the police could close them all down but I still think we’re a long way from that.

The reality is that NYE parties would still happen but in people’s homes on Underground parties etc. People just aren’t scared of the virus and its (probably sub) 0.096% IFR anymore and so the societal end to the pandemic is underway.

Someone on the main board was lamenting that nobody was wearing a mask at the game yesterday. The mentality of the country just isn’t there for more restrictions any longer.

Those lying peicks didn't help having parties last Christmas

Well if night clubs and other venues are shut they have no choice but to listen.
Authoritarian measures brought in in haste which later prove to have been unnecessary will be disastrous for public trust in the advice of public health leaders and the political leaders who imposed them. Yes, you can ensure compliance by force but this won't be forgotten in a hurry by those who have their New Year celebrations ruined. Our pubs and clubs are an important part of the culture, especially in working class communities, and they've suffered enough already without this additional devastating blow inflicted by their own government based on dubious modelling.

We're at the spike of the current wave in London so there is no point trying to reduce its height.

I can only go off what I see. My son and daughter and their friends have all had New year celebrations cancelled by the night club and the Edinburgh Hogmanay street events being cancelled. None of them seem angry or resentful, they have just got on with booking tables in pubs / restaurants nad seem fairly happy about their rearranged quieter New year celebrations.
