I think test cricket is dead 2bh. Modern generation don't have the mindset for it, they all want the social media fame of brightly coloured T20

Yep India and Australia will be fine because it’s there number one sport! New Zealand though have a cracking setup maybe we can Learn something from them.

Don't really agree, fifty odd thousand at the mcg boxing day.

Not really mate, Rugby league is bigger here. In Melbourne Aussie rules.

Send the lot of them home now, don't pay them their fees for the last two tests. Then you can start to pick through the bones and see who needs sacking. The whole ECB seems like a jobs for the boys type organisation so you can fire the lot of them to begin with and build it up again from the ground.

Something needs to happen.
They were pathetic.

Said it before, just a personal opinion, T20 bores the pants off me. But it's perfectly adapted to the modern world, which asks for instant gratification. I understand that. And then, as far as attending goes, who can give up five whole days of their life to follow any sport these days? (Good thing about England is that it often doesn't block five days of your time!) I used to love doing it as a kid. Really loved it. Would I do it now? Not sure, if I'm honest. And I'm retired, so I could do it.I certainly wouldn't do it for four days of county cricket.
I don't get the impression that either the Aussies or the Indians don't take test cricket seriously, frankly. The Aussies certainly look pretty serious about it at present.

The Aussies love test cricket, I can tell you that for sure. And they love the ashes the most.
There's genuine disappointment here that England are so poor, a good contest is much more enjoyable than an easy whitewash.
Huge crowds, free to air coverage, test cricket is very big here.

As someone mentioned above, we need to look at the Kiwis for inspiration on how to build a squad of players that can compete in all formats. Simply not good enough in red ball cricket and the writings been on the wall for a while, but the ECB have had white ball tournaments to distract from how abject we are.

Central contracts means they are all on easy street and until that changes we'll continue to be an national embarrassment

the worst team and test match england have ever played in (incredible)

lets break this down ?
Australia only made 267 and england could not score 268 with 20 wicket to make them bat again ? let that sink in

the ashes is the biggest contest in test cricket and you get 2 years home or away to build a team good enough to play for your country. a proud moment walking out in the ashes and you made it to the top. your deem good enough to play for england and fight for the right to play and try and win the ashes vs australia

but sorry this england squad did not win the right to be called test cricketers to play for england in the ashes
if your a england player this morning you stand down and walk away for test cricket and let somebody else have a go.

if you are that bad at your job you get the sack its that simple ? if you work at McDonald's and keep dropping the milk shakes your fired or if you work at a bank and make a mistake over and over again your sacked

what more can we say ?
enough is enough and change HAS to happen and nobody involved with this england team should be aloud to play for england in test cricket ever again. from the tea lady to joe root heads have to roll. i don't care who get the call to play in the next 2 test. in fact i don't see england playing them and will come home because of covid-19

What will really wind me up is when they suddenly show a bit of fight in the 4th test when it’s totally irrelevant.

I mentioned this in a previous thread Bill so thanks for backing it up.
No way do the Aussies want it so easy.
