Had the unfortunate task of picking up something from the Trafford centre before. Loads of people not wearing masks

large groups of families in particular

Did you go to the game on boxing day? 99% not wearing masks. The fear has gone and most people are just getting on with life now. Mask wearing will only decrease over time imo

Sadly the England hospital numbers today are even worse than yesterday. The worst in a long time.
But they don’t take into account the fact that half of England currently seems to have covid. As such, a huge proportion of those going into hospital for non covid related issues will test positive for covid and be added to the stats.

So looking at the data in detail, it would appear that ONE FIFTH (1/5) of all Covid hospitalisations are admitted FOR Covid and FOUR FIFTHS (4/5) are admitted WITH Covid.
The only issue is now clearly staff shortages through illness.
Ok this is a huge deal and more needs to be made of it.

Her lead numbers are exactly the same as what I posted last week.
They are taken from the primary diagnosis supplement on the NHS England website.
As it's only published every Thursday currently, I'll post the next update when it's released this morning. These numbers are the only meaningful ones we have now, with Omicron being so rife in the population.

You’re not wrong mate. They should be stickied (I know they can’t be but they’re literally the only numbers that matter. Cases are beyond irrelevant now)

He kinda answered his own question. They were anecdotal observations rather than any hard data at that time.

its Only been 5 weeks since Omicron was identified. And with an average of 2/3 weeks lag for deaths hard data has only been around for a couple of weeks.

it is looking very positive for sure. From the data we are seeing out of London I personally can’t see any restrictions being needed.

Not really mate, it’s only due to omicron being significantly less severe that we are now seeing this disparity, it is though very important as being discussed.

Some have asked the exact same questions for the last 2 years mate only to be shouted down and accused of being a covid denier etc.

No issue with seeing numbers quoted so long as we have the full details behind them and for 2 years we have simply not had that and it’s only now are people feeling brave enough to demand the real detail and rightly so.

Can anyone tell me what happens if you are admitted to hospital WITH COVID but not for COVID? I keep reading that it’s still an issue for the NHS, and I understand that. If you are admitted after a stroke/heart attack etc and test positive, where do they put you?

fortunately the Tory mps are now asking the same questions and rather than blindly voting things through are now asking to see the underlying data to support or oppose the vote.

without this uturn and challenge from his own MPs England would now be under the same restrictions as the scots and the Welsh.

boris knows the mps want to see the actual data before agreeing to more restrictions

up until then few mps have been brave enough to stand up and ask for the data . It’s a recent development .

its the same in the general populace more people now want to see for themselves what is actually happening from data , whereas previously they would just accept the advice/ modelling from the scientists and do as they are told.

there is a change.

I’ve followed this guy on Twitter from the early days of the pandemic (& learned a fair bit too):

Current take:

Amazing that it has seemingly taken us 2 years to start asking the right questions re the numbers and demanding the answers.

Not entirely sure what the ‘right questions’ were two years ago for a new virus with unknown effects. Could have given Mystic Meg a call I suppose.
