He was a very powerful man then :)

I started at my old company in 1977 and it was hard to believe how much power the union (NATSOPA) had there. Anything to do with production such as overtime had to be negotiated with the FOC before anything could happen. If they needed one guy to stay on for half a hour to get an urgent job out the management would engage in talks with the FOC and an agreement was usually reached on the basis that six guys would get two hours at overtime rate.
Yes then were the good old days. 3 Express buildings Fleet St, Manchester and Glasgow, the Printworks or Kemsley as we knew it and Whalens trucks taking the papers to the station. All in the days before Whapping

Other than the guys at my old company either doing casual work on weekends or eventually transferring to 'the papers' I've never had any dealings with that part of the print industry. Publication (newspapers and magazines) is on its arse in terms of physical print but the area I sell into, sheetfed cartons, is absolutely booming.

Edit: I tell a lie. After completing my GCEs in 1970 I got a job at Clayton Aniline starting in the September. As a filler, I worked at Colour 061 on New Bailey Street for a few months and that was part of the MEN. I sometimes went over to the MEN site at Cross Street to take photos for publication. Obviously there was no such thing as the Internet then :)

FOC is Father of Chapel in the newspaper industry not the other term

Betty's cheque book will make this civil action go away.
Lilibet doesn't want to see Andrew embarrassed, not to mention the general disgrace on the family.

The question is how much will they pay for it to go away. £10 million is at the low end.

It will never go away. Too late now, his rep is burned into public consciousness..
His accuser may settle but only on the basis of an agreed public statement from him.
He is a shit and thick as mince.
"I have no recollection of meeting this lady."

Right - so lets get this straight - he has been asked to produce medical evidence he couldn't sweat at the time - meanwhile he went to Pizza Express and nobody saw him? I am willing to believe that he may - just may - have been able to get them to empty the place for some royal privacy but like the servers - the cooking staff - the manager - nobody witnessed him getting pizza? He is a worse liar than Johnson !!!!

Surely the burden of proof is on the accuser.

Yes also familiar with the right to say nothing

He would have had protection officers and staff who served him etc , unless they have all been paid off

Not really reffering to this case specifically just the general burden of proof falling on the accuser

This isn't a criminal trial.

They have asked him to provide evidence of his sweating issue because absence of it points to him being dishonest during an interview with an international news network.

It’s about discrediting his version of events as accurate, the jury will be entitled to make a decision on the basis of who is a more trustworthy person and on the balance of probability.

Games on

How much of our money is going to be used to try and make the case go away I wonder?

Evidence that he was a sweaty sod would point to dishonesty but he is under no obligation to provide any information that could incriminate himself, that is the role of the accuser beyond reasonable doubt in a criminal trial and to a lesser extent of balance of probability in a private prosecution.
