As long as it pisses off Liverpool who cares.Bloody Everton scraping through, just like they always seem to avoid relegation despite years of mediocre shit.

I lived just off Abbey Road and went to South Newbarns primary and Barrow Grammar School (now demolished I think). Vickers were still making Polaris Subs when I was there and one famously grounded in Walney Channel. People talk about Barrow being a bit of a pit but I have fond memories of it.I didn’t live too far from Holker Street and visited the City games in the 80s. Haven’t lived there since the mid 90s but still look out for their results. First post btw having lurked for a very long time.
I grew up on a street just off Abbey Rd too but went to Victoria infants and juniors followed by Thorncliffe. I have fond memories of Barrow also but it’s been sad to see the town’s decline over the last few decades. Glad to see the football team back in league football and doing well.I lived just off Abbey Road and went to South Newbarns primary and Barrow Grammar School (now demolished I think). I have very fond memories of Walney and a place called Roanhead? (I might have misremembered that). Furness Abbey was nice too. In my last year in Primary we had a brilliant teacher who used to organise youth hosteling in the Lakes and the Pennine Way. I can vividly remember seeing coverage of the moonlanding in 1969 from one of the YH. It might have been Kettlewell. My dad is from Barrow, and my grandparents lived there all their lives, my grandad working at Vickers. I remember seeing a few of the subs, including the new Astute class, and one making its way through Walney channel.
The southern end of Walney in particular is beautiful (once you get past the caravans!), there’s an excellent nature reserve there. Piel Island is worth a trip too, on the little boat to the pub and ruined castle.
I too played at Holker Street - think they had the final of a Primary School cup there. Pretty special meeting Tony Book mate. I got Fred Else's autograph - not quite as special! Fred was Barrow's goalie at the time. His two sons used to go to the same school as I did. I think at the time Barrow were doing relatively well in the top half of old division 3 and I got to see some cracking games including Nottingham Forrest in the League Cup in 1969.I grew up on a street just off Abbey Rd too but went to Victoria infants and juniors followed by Thorncliffe. I played at Holker Street quite a few times as a junior and it felt like a massive pitch. Have faint memories of meeting Tony Book in the changing rooms who had taken over a youth team for a fixture against Barrow.
Fred was my maths teacher for a while at secondary school. We knew about his footballing history so I used to often ask him about it during maths and he loved to talk about it. Before we knew it the maths lesson was over and we had listened to Fred’s football exploits without having done much maths. A win win.I too played at Holker Street - think they had the final of a Primary School cup there. Pretty special meeting Tony Book mate. I got Fred Else's autograph - not quite as special! I also remember we used to park opposite a really big cemetery when we went to games and my old man would claim it was the dead centre of Barrow - every bloody game, the same joke.
Small world mate. Was he a good teacher?Fred was my maths teacher for a while at secondary school. Know the cemetery well, located on a long, steep hill that leads up to my old junior and secondary schools. Great joke, a proper Dad joke.
