Seems a pattern here, people that really like Gervais and his stuff, don't seem to like the series that much. People that don't, or don't know his stuff well enough, seem to enjoy it.

You can give up after series 1. The next 2 are identicalI'm just half way through the 1st series and am enjoying it myself, I've realised since starting it that I've never watched a Ricky Gervais series or film before either. Not sure how I've managed that TBH.

I think he got a snippet of a new crowd from derek. Funny whilst pulling on heartstrings at times. He’s then took that to a new level and gained a load of emotional dog loving fans. Rewatching the Pacific for the first time since I originally watched it in 2010. Was disappointed the first time as it wasn’t as amazing as Band of Brothers (which Iv rewatched many, many times). However, I’m appreciating it a lot more this time around.

I watched the first series but just remember it as emotional twaddle. Didn’t rate it much and can’t even remember who else was in it or recall any scenes or images from it. Don’t get the fuss over it at all.Possibly, just felt afterlife treated us all like idiots.

Finished afterlife last night, glad its been wrapped up it just ran out of steam really. Only properly laughed during the third episode, but it was a good show and engaged people thinking about grief/mental health issues.

Yep, both right up there for me.
For anyone that likes those, The Americans is worth a watch too.
The great thing about the first series of afterlife was the unexpected laughs and the introduction of characters. It held your attention as you genuinely wanted to see where the story went and there were just enough laughs to counter the emotional aspect of the storyline. It was really well written.
The next series whilst still watchable didn't hold my attention as much though still got the odd laugh. Not gotten around to the final series yet but I suspect it'll be closer to the second series in terms of enjoyment than the first. Will wait and see.
I do like Gervais though for the most part.

Fair enough. It's probably heresy to some on here but I gave up on SoA after series 4 for the same reason. I just skipped to the last ever episode to see what happened to Jax.You can give up after series 1. The next 2 are identical
