What do you do if the fish is bigger than the hole?Skunked means didn’t catch
A lot depends on how well your warming shack is set up, I’ve seen people with portable wood burners out there, we just had a little propane heater. Some people will spend all day out there, snow machines and ATV’s buzzing around, even pick up trucks. I’m sure people do fall in, the ice yesterday was about two feet thick so no chance of going through that
How do you get all that out on the ice?
You’re going to need a bigger hole! ;)What do you do if the fish is bigger than the hole?
That’s a good question, drill the biggest hole you can. I guess you could chip away some ice deposit on the thickness, like I said this shit was at least two feet thick, I guess you’d just have to cut the lineWhat do you do if the fish is bigger than the hole?
That’s just a pop up tent, we just dragged everything out on a sled. Knowing how thick that ice is we’ll take a snow machine next time and do it in style. Might choose a sunny day for the next trip, temp didn’t get above -12c all day and the wind didn’t helpHow do you get all that out on the ice?
The hole just has to be a little bigger than the circumference of the fish at its widest part. Even a very large (40lb) fish would pass through a hole the size of a dinner plate as long as you have hooked it in the mouth. Just keep winding in until it pokes its head above the ice and then hit it on the head with a big fuck you baseball bat. That’s a good question, drill the biggest hole you can. Brave man in the middle of winter mate. Hope you get a lump.Currently out in France on Korda’s Gigantica it’s fishing tough lake hasn’t done a bite in 9 days
Tough at the moment. Scaled down to 24 hooks on a 1lb bottom and not so much as a bite last Saturday - on a water that's so stuffed with roach you can barely get bait to the bottom for most of the year.Fishing should be banned for cruelty to anglers. Fuck me, I'm struggling at the moment. Been fishing the water where I had the 2lb roach last year and had nothing but 6 or 7-hour blanks. Not even a chewed maggot.
On Sunday we intended to fish the Ribble as we had permission to coarse fish a salmon stretch but it pissed down on Saturday and it was unfishable when we went for a look. So we adjourned and went to look at a nearby lake but the howling gale and driving rain saw us wet and freezing after a biteless couple of hours so we packed up.
Nothing good comes easy.
I take my hat off to you fishing at this time of year. I will not go out until wind is under 20mph and temperature above 10c. What a bloody wimp!Fishing should be banned for cruelty to anglers. Are you leaving us in suspense, NN?Un-fucking-believable !! Made a last minute call that, notwithstanding the inclement weather, I'd pop down to the Avon to see if I could get a roach or two and maybe a bream. Arrived to find a work-party setting up. "Just my luck" I thought but Fate intervened and they declined my enthusiastic offer of help. So I pissed off to another part of the river. Set up with 14s hook to 3lbs line and, after 20 minutes had a wrap-around.
Conditions are really shit for lure fishing at the moment especially with jigs and the like. The water is way too cold for them to chase.ive been fishing short sessions maybe once a week on the canals, i haven't caught a fish since november, it seems every time i blank i buy more gear :) costing me a fortune haha, cant be the gear im buying because i'm spending the money on decent gear, and it obviously cant be the angler :) i must be cursed, still plenty of lady joggers about though :) maybe i need to keep my eyes on the canal
when is your film coming out,i don't seem to have my invitation for the premier ?must be in the post :)Conditions are really shit for lure fishing at the moment especially with jigs and the like. The water is way too cold for them to chase.
To prove that point I had a morning’s deadbaiting planned but when I got up it was blowing a hoolly, raining, hail etc. I didn’t fancy it so took two lure rods out to three canal swims and one river swim. I might have had one hit on the crayfish cheb rig but basically it was shit. One Brucey Bonus was that one of the canal locks in the river was just below some playing fields and I netted three proper footballs out for my lads.
