Russian invasion of Ukraine

over the uk maybe

They arrived in UK a couple of weeks ago. Normal deployment but they tend to stay a couple of weeks at most as part of a forward deployment before heading home - but I don’t think usual to fly so far east without advanced warnings - probably a bit of willy waving from NATO after Putin waved his big missiles willy at the weekend.

Presume it just came over and left?

Circled for a few hours, went down and landed in Ostrava it looks like.

Think one flew down the Med earlier on in the week and turned around near Cyprus. An airframe that is nearly 70 years old still flying, it’s pretty impressive from and engineering point of view.

In 1938 when Hitler was eyeing Czechoslovakia he got the Germans in the Sudetenland to stir up trouble as his excuse for going in to "defend" them, then of course eventually dismembered the whole country. It's what Putin is doing now by using the Russian separatists in Ukraine as his excuse to invade. Hitler said it was his "last territorial demand" and we know what became of that, similarly Putin won't be satisfied with Ukraine but will fancy getting Estonia etc. back into the Russian Empire.
Next up, China wants to "reunify" with Taiwan?

History repeating itself

News from Russia:

Right now, the President is addressing his national security council (none of whom is allowed within 20 yards of him owing to his extreme fear of catching COVID), and they're screening it live on all the main TV channels instead of the regularly scheduled programming. They're talking about Ukrainian attacks on the rebel states in Donetsk and Luhansk at the moment. Looks like Russian recognition of those 'republics' is imminent. Shit's getting real.

Thoroughly depressing, as is the fact that my missus is saying that they have no option to attack Ukraine to stop Ukrainian attacks on ethnic Russians in the Donbass. So the propaganda's working, too.
I think we all know by now it's happening

I think the youngest one in service is around 60 years old. Upwards of 21,000 flying hours which isn't really that much when you consider that some 747's have done more than 100,000 hours in the air and over 36,000 take off and landing cycles.

They will fly up to 2030, think they are strapping some new Rolls Royce engines to them . Constantly upgrading the tech has kept it in service, an achievement considering they have the B1 Lancer and the B2 Spirit.

Another 30 years.

The biggest surprise for me in all of this is you’ve not been carted off to a “re-education centre” for your recent, much appreciated, posts ;)

Stay safe there blue.
