Russian invasion of Ukraine

It doesn’t. You’d naturally think the opposite - Russian investments in London creates connectivity and trade - the very things the EU say has kept peace in Europe.

I do agree with the rest of your post - we were a little half arsed after Crimea, we avoided pretty much anything that damaged the interests of the west. Now let’s see how much pain we are willing to take abs for how long…

I agree that’s the argument. Germany needs their gas, but Russia needs their cash. Mutual dependence. Except it hasn’t worked. Russia keep on taking and we keep ending back at square one.

At some point, it has to stop.

It would be great to see Finland and Sweden change it's stance on joining Nato on the back of recent events on their door step, that would be Russia's Western Norther flank covered by Nato with the baltic states already in place - his game of pre-emptive chess on Ukraine will have backfired - will trump any additional sanctions we can cobble together.

I did say that we are are irrelevant as long as we are not prepared to do anything about Russian money in London. Sounds like you agree with me. The question is are we prepared to act? With Johnson in charge I suspect it will be more hot air than substance.

Well they do seem to have been edging that way. I mean let’s seize the assets of these Russians, cover everyone’s energy bills and forget the NI rise ;)

Sadly that would damage our reputation with dictators and depots around the world.

When Argentina invaded the Falklands we went to the aid of the English speaking people who lived there albeit half way across the globe.

As I understand it there is a large majority of people in these 2 regions who consider themselves Russian. They have been at War with Ukrainian forces for over 5 years.

Is Putin justified in going to their aid? And if not why not?

The only slight crumb of comfort is that the Americans and the rest of us haven’t got Trump directing the West’s response!
Shite mate, politicians playing with normal peoples lives. It doesn’t often end well for war mongers but the worryingly collateral damage could be the ultimate one. I’m not going to lie, as a 14 year old I lived through a day in the Yom Kippur war when Nixon put the USA on red alert, it took me a long time to get over that resulting in my parents agreeing with my School to give psychiatric counselling as I had gone from a pleasant, hard working student to a right horrible kid. I was ashamed of myself in the end. I’m now suffering again with this, I’m having to drink a few beers at night to get some sleep, it’s occupying all my thoughts, there’s diversions but it’s there in my mind and I’m not coping very well. I’m going back to my 1973 MO, I’m not going to listen to any news or watch any TV that talks about this and I’ll not look at this thread anymore.

I feel for you, your son and all kids that will be confused by this situation, I just wish someone would stick a bullet in Putin’s head, he’s a psychotic tosser, probably loving it.

Sorry you are going through it mate. A lot of people are struggling right now with various anxiety, including myself in terms of sleep.

Not knowing your situation, try to avoid the alcohol and maybe speak to your doctor about getting something for your anxiety/sleep?

Best wishes.

It's ok - Arron Banks is blaming the West for the Russian approach and Johnson has vowed only to play tennis with any Russian if they pay in gas......... perfect

Is Putin justified in sending troops in to aid the troops he previously sent in under the pretext of a civil war? I’m going to go for no.

The only thing I have sympathy for is when he said we didn’t want them as a friend / ignored them - he has a point here after the Cold War but invading Ukraine isn’t the way to make it

Bloody Estonians pushing their Western values, imperialist NATO/EU agenda...

BREAKING: Estonia's President - who is visiting Ukraine's President in Kyiv - says a "threat to Ukraine is a threat to the security of Europe". Alar Karis says the door must stay open for Ukraine to join NATO and the European Union. "You belong in Europe"’

Thanks Tolmie, I wouldn’t normally open my soul on here, I have a history of panic attacks whilst driving, not good for someone who is a light haulage driver, if I get stuck in traffic I feel “trapped” and the attack begins but they come on at anytime. My anxiety was through the roof so I self referred myself to the NHS for treatment, I’ve had the initial consultation’s and get my first session shortly. You may remember I look after my elderly (89) Dad, he’s become much more demanding and that’s not helping. In fact the first question asked by the anxiety counsellor after my personal details was “do you care for anyone” apparently it’s a major player towards stress.

Thanks for your kind words and advice, hope you and your family are well, I remember you had a bad case of Covid, thanks.

Exactly.
An affluent Russian population is more of a threat to Putin than a struggling Russian population. The oligarchs have stayed rich and poor have got poorer. That works well for Putin.

If we had a Govt with any backbone we would be crippling oligarchs in Russia and booting the one's that are here out of the UK and seizing their assets until Putin desists/is replaced - we won't of course because as a parting shot all of those oligarchs will spill the beans on the Tory Party and they would be exposed and ruined......... if they will keep the clown in charge of the circus at the expense of 170k British lives then Ukraine can consider itself similarly expendable.

You never know somebody else's situation, mate.

I have suffered from panic attacks and anxiety for a number of years but recently decided to get help from the Doc.

Been put on 50mg daily of Sertraline to try and calm me down/sleep after all the stresses of losing business during Covid.

In to my second week of taking it and a few side effects and little improvement yet, but know I need to stick with it.

An anti-depressant but hoping it ticks a few boxes for me.

Don't suffer in silence mate, I've done CBT and all sorts to try and get through the fog.
