Album of the Year Thread - 2022 - Winner - For the Sake of Bethel Woods - Midlake

Could be right up my street this.
Not that I'm going to nominate any music but hopefully I can get new music or a new group to love.
Cannot think of anything in the last 10 years that I got excited about.
I’m surprised at that, Benny. You like Americana/alt country, dont you? Loads of great stuff going on in that genre. Anyway, hopefully this thread can lead the way with some pointers to new music.

62 now.Makes me wonder if i will find a new group that i spend regular listening time on.
Top of my head I cannot think of one new group that has put out something that I would say is great to very good recently.
Could be on to a winner with Alix Page as suggested by unicorn.Loved the 4 songs on that Old News ep.
2022 as well so this thread is working for me already.
So I will further investigate unicorn choices.

Seeing Big Thief in Manc this Thursday

Not a thread for me I suspect. I have so much music already that I don't get to listen to as much as I'd like. Perhaps if one of my favourite bands released something this year but there aren't that many of them still going! Other than on the review thread, I probably haven't listened to a new band in over 10 years.

Great idea, and although Tidal comes up with loads of new stuff I'd welcome as many suggestions as possible.

Most of what I listen to is new albums and EPs (loads of EPs, like "Old News" by Alix Page, my current favourite. Seeing Big Thief in Manc this Thursday, their vast new album is wonderful.
Get the Big Thief album on this thread. A superb record that fits the bill perfectly

Glad it's not just me, @bennyboy ! Alix Page is only 20, not toured UK yet but supporting Gracie Abrams (listen to ""Feels Like" by her) so a very young and female audience apart from the Old Codgers like me who tip up for gigs in Gorilla and hide at the back.

Nice idea Rob. Unfortunately I just can’t squeeze more time than 1 album a week of late. Hopefully changes - would actually like to know about some new stuff rather than everything pre 00’s

No worries. The good thing about this thread is you can dip in and out without the need to be here every week. Maybe you can just turn up in December to see what the rest of us think are the 10 best albums of the year.

There was a good album of '20 thread. Wasn't a vote, people were just askes to list their top 3 (or 5) albums of the year, their biggest 'surprise' and biggest 'disappointment'.

I thought about trying to recreate it for '21 but ended up not doing it.

Like I said, I do like end of year lists, but I thought that if we started the process early in the year, then people would be aware of what was out there and we might get a more "shared" experience. A bit like when we all watch the same TV programs over a certain period and then discuss.

I see.

As long as it isn't ovey complicated, I'll contribute. I'm already struggling to follow in fairness. I couldn't keep up with the other album thread at all and abandoned it despite wanting to follow it.

Really? Somebody selects an album each week, we all review it and score out of 10. It's not that complicated!

This one will be less complicated. Although I haven't finalised the way it will work, it will basically be people letting everybody know there's a decent album out there and if enough people like it, it will be on the final voting list.

Admittedly, there may be the complication of semi-finals or something like that.

Keep an eye on the thread, I'm sure you''ll enjoy it.

I am very similar. Off the top of my head the only ’new’ artists I listen too semi regularly are Lana del Ray, Michael Kiwanuka and Shaku Kanneh-Mason.
So much brilliant old stuff to listen too. These threads have at least made me think about new stuff, which I have enjoyed.

C'mon, it wasn't That simple. It went from a pre determined list for a start. Who gets to nominate an album and when also came down to contribution. Maybe I left before it was simplified, but when it started I couldn't keep up at all. Read a few of the reviews of albums that came up that I cared for though, and was enjoyable.

I'll keep an eye on it for sure, and contribute if I can. I do listen to a fair bit and keeping it to one year at least limits it to manageable selections.

Edit to my post above, just realized there is a second album review thread, must be the one you were referring to.

I was thinking of the 1100 greatest albums that i couldnt keep up with. I hadn't actually ventured onto the other one because I thought they were the same thread. Likely too far behind now anyway.

randomly selected album from the top 1100 albums of all time

a week to listen to it and score out of 10

before the next randomly selected album from the list.

Edit @BlueHammer85, that maybe sounds dismissive and abrupt looking at back at it.
