Russian invasion of Ukraine

That’s the way I’ve heard it -the prospect of the Russains suddenly bombing the crap out of the Ukraine when there’s hundreds of thousands of their Relatives settled there since the days of the USSR is bizarre. Vox Pops in both Countries have said pretty much this. The Countries have a shared history for god sake dating back a thousand years.
Another gem ageing well….

Putin says he doesn’t want to “occupy” Ukraine. Ergo, he just wants Ukraine to be Greater Belarus!

That is to say, a massive pro-Russian puppet state that will do as he says when he says it, will never look to the west (or actual democracy) and will allow him the deep Russian border buffer he wants for his Motherland and total domination of the Black Sea.

Wonder who he has picked as the new President of Ukraine, and how will they bring the population to heel?

As Oprah would say, “You get a Russian passport! You get a Russian passport! And you get a Russian passport!”

Meanwhile Putin is hosting Imran Khan and fostering good relations with Pakistan.

This is all a pantomine to him, he knows unless he actually sets foot or attacks EU or Nato allies we will do nowt.

Fucking madness

Ukraine should just offer assurances that it won’t request to join NATO. The west won’t fight a nuclear war over Ukraine and they don’t stand a chance by themselves. Better to take the pragmatic position for the benefit of its population.

I really can't understand a very wealthy man thinking let's start something that will destabilise the world and potentially lead to his ousting / his death or half the world being blown up by nuclear weapons.
Just sit their quietly with your millions and enjoy the rest of your life spending it quietly....
His life’s mission is to destabilise Europe and the US, to make us weak, to even see us off in war.

He’s been destabilising Europe and the US for two decades. He even told us what he wanted to do in 2007 in Munich.

It’s power that makes him tick, not money.

It’s weird that people think we could do it if we wanted to. The US spent decades trying to get rid of Castro and failed hundreds of times.

The only way out is to wage economic war on Russia’s people and the oligarchs until Putins support is undermined. NATO has the power to do it, our governments just don’t seem to have the willpower.

The problem for our government is that they are conflicted. Too many in government have vested interests that are tied to Russian money - they probably want to put pressure on Putin but want to do so in a way that doesn’t effect them…. It’s a straightforward conflict of interest. Putin looks increasingly unhinged and diplomacy is presently impossible. The West needs unprecedented sanctions to isolate Russia from the international community. I agree it’s impossible to take out Putin and frankly an act like that would actually do more harm than good.

So is that why he financed the Brexit campaign ; )

Why would anyone believe that Putin would care what Ukraine said?

Under 20 years ago, Russia agreed to recognise Ukraine's sovereign borders. They didn't care about that, an agreement they signed up to.

As much as nukes may have prevented war due to MAD this is the other side of the coin where everyone sits on their hands and let’s Russia do what they want out of fear of what would happen if they stepped in. Fucking ridiculous this is happening in this day and age.

Erm joint forces just left a country to be overun by extemists, nations have watched several african countries be decimated by civil wars and tutted at a military junta taking over burma while having good relations with a military dictatorship in thailand and murderous loons run brasil and the philippines

this shit happens all the time in this day and age.

Effectively concede to Putin’s demands and deny Ukraine its right to join NATO. When did we become so weak and cowardly.

Or maybe just go old school and judge the government by what it’s (not) doing right now?

I don’t really care about people taking ex-pat Russian money when the world is at peace, as long as that doesn’t interfere in foreign policy when Russia tries to start a major war.

All political donations have strings attached, but at some point you’ve got to cut those strings and do your job.

Ah yes, they sent Liz Truss to Moscow cosplaying as a Russian in her Cossack hat. Can't believe didn't work.

Call his bluff. What do they have to lose?

As a nato member any aggresion on nato soil, even accidently is not gonna go without issues.

Go on then, what issues would arise?

NATO isn’t going to start all out world war over a wayward missile, so what would really happen? Bluster, lots of “now this is your last warning” etc.

Poland is part of NATO

We let this shit happen all the time.
This is actually fairly minor compared with many of those examples I suppose.

Why because of a bully Ukraine has every right to join nato like we have, we don’t live in the 1940’s where one man can try and invade a sovereign country
