The only time Trident needs scrapping is when the whole world demilitarises their nuclear weapons at the same time.

Ukraine claiming 50 Russians killed in fighting on the Eastern front.

Ukraine also claimed it had downed six Russian planes, a helicopter, and destroyed four tanks.
Also Some Russian tanks now in the Kiev area.

The west is too busy engaged in cultural and social wars to be too bothered by any of this. Half of the people involved in politics are now thinking how can we get in Labour in and attack the Tories on this and the Tories are thinking how can we get Boris out of trouble by using it as a smokescreen. If we remember back in WW2 we had a united government, can you even imagine that today?

It's the same in the US where the right are either admiring Putin for his nationalism or they're attacking Biden because Trump would of clearly sent in the full might of the US military (of course he wouldn't of). The left just don't say anything because since Trump got booted out they've now reverted to ignorance politics and Biden was always going to be useless anyway.

Basically, we're too busy fighting amongst ourselves to seriously be bothered about Ukraine. Some people might put a Ukraine flag on their profile picture but most people will recoil at the news and then go about their day slagging off the government or whoever they can as they did before.

The fact is the west is completely irrelevant and will never cobble together any meaningful response. Putin isn't arsed about sanctions, he knew that risk and he's gone in anyway. The only thing Putin is arsed about is a response from NATO but he knows that NATO won't risk war and instead it will shore up its defences next door to Ukraine and keep as large a distance as possible.

The main thing we in the west must do is cut ties with Russia, ban flights, ban trade, take the champions league final off them and generally make this as difficult as possible for them. Russia will not be a happier place after this and the only way that will change is if it comes from within.

Basically NATO should have appeased Russia IMO. If an offer to join NATO was made, and refused, and if an offer of a defence system was made, to make them feel less nervous, and they moved their troops to the Ukrainian border, I would have offered Ukraine emergency NATO membership and rolled the NATO troops into Ukraine. Maybe that would have caused a war between NATO and Russia and that’s why it wasn’t done? Either way my heart goes out to all the Ukrainians and they are very much caught in the middle.

We’re now in a situation where Ukraine is fucked, we’ve got a pissed off country on our doorstep with nuclear weapons, and we’re talking about sanctions, which are an act of war in my opinion (cutting from swift specifically).

I don’t think NATO could have fucked this up any more if they tried.

My biggest worry now is a Chinese invasion of Taiwan, because a China, Russia, North Korea alliance is the worst case scenario here.

The best case scenario is that Russia finish doing what they are now executing, and come to the table.

NATO obviously need to defend her borders but I’d avoid any large build up of troops at borders.

You can’t just say enough is enough here, we just defend NATO borders and we wait for talks to resume.

We should be building renewables at record speed and potentially fracking in the interim NOW, I would nationalise it and sell it off later. Those are the economic sanctions I would put in place, non-aggressive and will hit them where it hurts.

Any sanctions need to be against the Russian government, not directly at it’s people (I get they’ll be punished indirectly but they can emigrate).

I want the EU and US to slowly reduce trade with Russia, with any future trade agreements dependant on Ukraine being liberated.

You honestly think Putin is going to stop at Ukraine, given his maniacal rant a few days ago where he was talking about the Russian Empire, how it was a mistake to let national republics leave the USSR?

Comments just in from Salvini the former Italian far right Deputy P.M - his adulation of Putin is on a par with Trump and Le Penn. All of them idiotically conflating isolationism as a way of strengthening the security of your nation when the effect is to have the exact opposite due to the geo politics we live within. Far left and right are easy pickings for the likes of Putin to rip Europe a new arsehole.

Salvini has previously described the Russian president as one of the greatest statesmen alive” and called sanctions against Russia “idiotic”.

They havent got the resource to resist in the conventional sense. But a proud, principled people with I imagine lots and lots of guns and explosives. One thing conquering, another totally subverting And supressing.

The scricpt is written and was for a long time of planning and in the end Putin will be celebrated for stabilizing Ukraine and Europe, avoiding an escalation and fighting Nazis for OUR sake!

China, Iran, Pakistan, India, islamist and any anti-US state will line up for the public arslicking.

The USA might be torn all over the pitch to use the global weak situation of western democracies. When if not now might some bad boys ask themselves now.
