Russian invasion of Ukraine

I know a fair few who joined the army. Have to say around half of them are probably the most dislikable people have ever met, both before, during and after service. Not convinced they joined the army for Queen and country. Rather, it was the only occupation where they would have the opportunity to carry out their desires....physically hurting people or even killing. Think a fair few people who joined the police had the same attitude. Of course, I am not talking all, or even the majority, all police and armed services personnel.
I would like to thing that is a very small, but vocal minority.

Like the police - shit coppers get on the news and on social media etc, but the good ones go about their job protecting people unnoticed.

Look like babies ffs.

That could be helpful to Ukraine actually - remember when the Argentinians held all the cards in the Falklands because they were so close to the battlefield? We had a task force and that was it - too far to resupply at speed. When push came to shove the quality troops that the Argies had turned out to be cold wet late teenaged conscripts with no stomach for the fight.

Also I recall post the fall of Russia a Western analysis of what we had faced showed we had over estimated the threat - yes they had many more battle tanks but far more than was thought were back up 2nd rate older designs and many were unserviceable. Things like missile tech was way out of date and badly in need of maintenance - Russia was a big poor country.

For all the time Putin has been in charge Russia's economy has been in the doldrums - massive country with an economy smaller than that of Italy and its well known a select few - Putin amongst them - are creaming the top half off. They are not personally going to be paying for any military upgrades out of their own pockets.

If a poorly equipped poorly trained army comes up against a determined well trained recently well equipped enemy who are fighting for every inch of their homeland and they start taking casualties then you may see moves against Putin. A Ukrainian fighter who dies defending his or her home ground dies a martyr - a 19 year old conscript who dies on foreign soil fighting for Putins war leaves many questions to be answered at home

I noticed earlier the Ukrainian government, a few ambassadors from other European countries and Boris all mentioning the people of Russia should say no to this aggression, it was clearly coordinated tactic to get the message out there to the Russian public and one which could massively help this whole conflict

i would hope/expect that the West is bombarding Russia with a cyber war of information to get through to the Russian people

Yep shared a post before regarding Russian conscripts who had been called up as late as this December which would mean they have barely had any training, certainly not to the extent for warfare like this.

And cheese and wine plays such a huge part in that? FFS.
Irrespective of cheese and wine, Johnson is a huge fucking liability and is leading a government with no credibility at home or abroad and has proven links with dodgy Russian money. Does that not make you think we might have a problem or are you going to try and trivialise it again?

Not having your kit ready and knowing you had to lay it out on the parade ground to get checked was a pain, 6 months in you click on that you need 2 sets of kit :)
As my user name suggests I was Signals. We used to get the inside track about 48 hours before. When the duty screw came round to get everyone up, all our kit was packed and we went to sleep on top of our beds in combats the night before, happy days!

They will firmly on Russia's side. Pair of twats been cooking something together for a while

I wouldn't be so sure.

China have no problem poking a stick at the west but they have no desire to be sworn enemies. They may not support the west with anything UN related but I doubt they will be putting themselves side by side with Russia.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that the Ukraine's biggest trading partner is China and the Chinese government asked for tensions to de-escalate. Ironic considering China's attitude to Taiwan.

One of the best things about not being told is that you could be out when the call came, alright I wasn't fortunate to miss one but I know a fair few who stayed out of camp and town until the flap was over.
