Is it possible that Putin could have underestimated the response to this globally? Ukrainians fighting back, well supported, reports of mass protests, strong sanctions, widespread condemnation from global leaders, 150 Russian officials signing a public letter condemning the war, young Russian soldiers being captured and dying in a war that Russian the public simply doesn't want, global sports stars coming out against it, the hacking and so on, the mass dropping and separation of huge firms from their Russian ties, Champions League final loss etc...some of it seems trivial, yes, but at what point does it all add up to become his own potential downfall? And it's only just getting started too. Maybe im just being naive here.
I don't think they will care about protests outside Russia to be honest.
The only reason this as all kicked off in the first place is cos Ukraine call it a muffin. Putin is a barmpot.I’ve just received a like in the “half rice, half chips” thread. We’re on the brink of nuclear war and people are commenting on the validity of half rice, half chips. Proud to be British!

Three of my brothers were in the army. Gulf War for the older 2 and then Bosnia for the 3rd. Got a nephew in the Household Cavalry too at the present time.I served in the military for 25 years and never met anyone like that.
I would be suspicious of anything coming from either side , misinformation is king at this stageNo, but I'm referring to the one in Russia right now. Plus they'll care about global protests when it leads to stuff like this:
This lecture from the University of Chicago, filmed in 2016.You still think this is about NATO ? Seriously ?

Its possible, as I dont see any scenario where Russia benefits from this long term, they might capture part of Ukraine but will likely take heavy losses in doing so and face constant trouble from a population who wont just sit and accept invasion or a puppet state.
All these little things add up and we havent had the full sanctions released yet, if the russian population and more important the Oligarchy in power start to lose more and more quality of life, the screw is getting turned further and further on Putin.
I really dont see what the end goal is, this will cause permeant damage to russia for little gain.
A few more examples of sanctions from Gary Kasparov
Very brave of them.
