Telling there about SWIFT, that we need consensus which we don’t have. Anyway completely removing banks from UK financial system is almost as good from our point of view.

I heard a report earlier that it was Germany being the biggest stumbling bloc to us banning them from swift but I’m certain it really is the very last option for most given it’s impact on ourselves as well.

Russia has spent years destabilizing and fracturing the west, quite successfully. They've already got their warm water port.

Now, suddenly, they've made themselves almost universally the bad guys and reunited the west against them. Their own people are against this. Their economy will be fucked even with China's backing, if they have it. What do they have to gain? Seriously, what am I missing?

Listening to JO’B this morning a professor of Russian politics specialist subject Putin said almost exactly that. He thought 1) it was a surprising move with no logic from the Russian perspective 2) he listed all the challenges you list 3) difficult to see how he draws back from it. It will generate massively increased NATO forces in Eastern Europe which is the opposite of what Putin wants.

pray that internal pressures oust him because the alternative may very well shape our future more profoundly than 9/11.
