Edit- the president fled to Russia in February 2014, the elections you’re talking about were in May 2014.
What I said was he didn’t lose an election, protestors took the government buildings and he fled.
3 months later they had an election, which was after Crimea was annexed.

Putin and Russia would not win a war against NATO and it's 30 country armed forces. Besides that, Russia's economy would be crippled by long lasting economic sanctions.
If he hasn't already, Putin will eventually realise he has f*cked up big time invading Ukraine and facing off with America, Europe, NATO, and most countries in the World.
Sadly Putin's cronies who surround him are too scared of him to tell him the truth, and to put a stop to 'Putin's and his war'.

Obviously I'm only speculating, but to me it would make sense as they're only human. Bound to be many of them questioning why they're being thrown in to a bloody, pointless conflict to kill people they have a lot in common with.

Putin is on record saying he knows Russia would have no chance against NATO. It’s more the weapons he has at his disposal that are the threat. If it wasn’t for the existence of those weapons we’d be seeing more of a physical effort to stop Russia in Ukraine. Unfortunately he has everyone’s balls in a vice.
