Russian invasion of Ukraine

for me a clear path opening up the solution of this war and the future is the sentiment within Russia. I dont know what the overall Russian populace think of it, we've seen some protests which are indicative of very strong feelings given the policing situation, but it doesn't tell us the whole story.

Furthermore, drawing a crude parallel with the post-WW1 punishment of Germany to economic debridement, the last thing you want is a generation of festering idiots who grow up to be Russia's ruling class in the future. It feels to me like we're heading towards a situation where a Russian internal power grab may ensue, or at least political tensions rise to the point of being debilitating for Putin, especially if things get economically tighter at home in Moscow.

I agree with the above, but was listening to the world service before and the feeling is that they are a long way off that.

Economic sanctions are not likely to be felt by the average russian for quite a while

Putin’s popularity in Russia is generally around 60%. So there’s a sizeable proportion of the country who oppose him generally anyway and some of his 60% might disagree with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as well.

But as good as it is to see the protests within Russia, there still could be around half the country who agree with his invasion and further Russian expansion.

Russia has not taken any of its major objectives in the first 24 hours of its invasion of Ukraine and has lost more than 450 personnel, according to the UK's defence secretary.
I was thinking this last night, I suspect Putin is not very happy at the moment with the progress so far, let’s hope he has the same delusional and frightened generals Hitler had giving him feedback from the Eastern front

Just seen Khan from India meeting with Putin yesterday, how the fuck can anyone be meeting with this bastard, the west should make it clear there are sides here and if you side with him you will be held accountable as well. We send foreign aid to these countries, immediately stop that now.

Pakistan mate, not India.

Pakistan. Don’t inflame another conflict;)

From first hand experience I can say that the view of a lot of Russians, probably most, is quite different from ours when it comes to Ukraine. It’s difficult for us to understand that and I put it down largely to years and years of what I would call brainwashing - but it’s there and it emboldens Putin.

"Senior Pakistani officials who accompanied Khan on the visit said the discussions on bilateral issues focused specifically on enhancing energy cooperation. The two sides said they also resolved "90%" of the issues related to a proposed multibillion-dollar gas pipeline, known as Pakistan Stream Gas Pipeline, that Islamabad wants to construct in partnership with Moscow."

Think people are worried about fucking them off from Swift might financially align them more with China, it’s heartbreaking, met some great people when I was working over there.

Sadly, we have very few options on the table when the threat of military action isn't a consideration unless Putin were to threaten a Nato country, as we telegraphed yesterday.

At least it’s not Sadiq getting tips on how to reduce traffic levels in congested cities.

Khan let himself and his Nation down badly yesterday in the eyes of the world.

He allowed himself to be used by Putin and shame on him and as the poster above said, we send aid to him and his Nation and we should stop that aid now.

Fuck them out of Swift, World Cup qualifiers, ParaOlympics, every facet of wider society.

These sanctions are doing nothing but telling Ukraine they are on their own, barring usual lip service and empty gestures lighting up monuments in Ukraine colours.

The least we can do is rub them off the map when it comes to being a participant in the rest of society.

Europe currently won’t fuck them off from SWIFT, hopefully soon. Putin has stockpiled £650bn of gold, he was expecting this, he will sell it to whoever and this gives him time to sue an illegal war against Ukraine. This is what makes sanctions slow burning, we have to erode his savings before they bite.

We also need to be careful not to isolate the Russian people who don’t appear to want this war either if our media reports are to be believed. Basically there are 2 people who want this war, Putin and his western spokesperson, @bluesteel ;)
