Russian invasion of Ukraine

This will happen quicker than you would think. I can imagine that Putin promised something very quick and swift but it hasn't worked out that way. This is one of the largest superpowers going up against a very average military, they should of had no problem taking the country within a day but it hasn't been so easy and Russia looks horrendous in the world right now.

The longer it goes on the harsher things will get at home. Many of these ogliarchs had half of their money wiped out yesterday in one day and any assets they do have over here will wilt away as it carries on. They no longer have access to foreign finance, they only have the Russian banks who have virtually collapsed. Their cushty lives are going to be made very difficult for the sake of something they probably don't care about.

Putins meeting with them yesterday was very telling, we've even seen protests in Moscow. Let's not pretend that Russia is united against Ukraine, it's quite the opposite.

You only have to see the fear in that blokes eyes to realise what a despot Putin is.

The longer Ukrainian soldiers and civilians hold out the worse it gets for Putin.

He promised the Russian people a quick and decisive victory and that doesn't look like it's going to happen. There's already reports of Russian people demonstrating against this war and if it drags on surely that will grow.

The rest of the world should be giving Ukraine as much aid and help as possible

What are they supposed to do? . Cripple their own country's economy to show support for Ukraine. There aren't any easy choices when we are all globally connected economically. This isn't 1939 anymore.

This is the easy choice.

Massive, castastrophic sanctions that cripple the Russian economy overnight and whip up the already unhappy Russian public to bring this to a quick end is the easy choice here.

The difficult choice is sending our young men and women to die defending Latvia, Lithuania or Estonia in 6 years time.

The difficult choice will be when in a few months Ukrainian insurgents fighting against occupation blow up a pipeline and the power is literally switched off for Germany.

People are still acting like these sanctions are an optional slap on the wrist, instead of the last resort to nip this expansionist Russia in the bud before sending our own to die.

@Moderating Team How long does someone have to keep repeating disproven Russian propaganda before we just ban them and save everyone else the effort of correcting their Putin parroting bullshit?

We’re only 36 hours into this war and already half the forum is sick of this clown.
Why not just prove his easily disprovable claims wrong rather than banning him?

So what you are saying is that Russia would ALLOW Ukraine to join the EU (That's nice of them) and that sovereign nations can't have protection from an overbearing aggressive neighbour on its doorstep for fear of offending that overbearing neighbour?

And you blame NATO for that?
No, that’s what you’re saying. I said what I meant in my post.

No, that’s what you’re saying. I said what I meant in my post.

No, it's what YOU wrote.

I’m not talking about Ukraine joining the EU here, Russia were perfectly happy for them to join the EU

Honestly I’m sick of NATO and the US they are jeopardising our security not enhancing it. Seriously what next? Asking Taiwan to join?

If a tyrant was launching an unprovoked attack on my country I would hope that every able bodied person would take up arms to defend it.

Sadly, many people are not made that way and are more than happy to let others do the fighting for them.

Ever heard the saying live to fight another day?

Damnable NATO for not backing off in regards to giving Ukraine membership.

NATO had 2 options.
Option 1, don’t back off, lose Ukraine to a bloody war.
Option 2, back off, if Russia back off too, happy days, if they don’t, lose Ukraine to a bloody war.

Option 1 is patently absurd.
You're a fucking bellend pal. Do us all a favour and fuck off to Moscow.

Ever heard the saying live to fight another day?

In a dictatorship? In a country where I knew me, my friends or family could be 'taken away' at any time for merely disagreeing with the leadership?

I couldn't live with myself if I knew I hadn't done everything in my power to stop that eventuality from happening.

What solution is the one you'd opt for? It all sounds rather damned if you do and damned if you don't.
