Russian invasion of Ukraine

One thing has become very clear in the last few days and that is the days of freeloading NATO members relying on the US, UK and France to be the countries that can actually do any fighting are over. When the head of the German Army goes on LinkedIn to essentially say that their army is a fucking joke then governments have to wake up and start to spend on their defence. Having a woke 'peace keeping' touchy feely organisation isn't the same as having combat ready armed forces.

No wonder Putin is laughing his bollocks off.

Agreed. Been saying it for years yet some soft arse wankers over here think we should scrap trident and slash defence budgets.

the point isnt to destroy the capital though. he just wants to remove the government and installed his own. Its looking more and like he was so arrogant he thought Ukraine would crumble and surrender. This wont be over quick, maybe from an actual military point of view. this is guerilla warfare. house to house, street by street. When will dictators learn that you can never occupy a nation that refuses to be occupied - its just going to get very brutal, very bloody and very bitter. what you have seen yesterday and today was nothing. This is the when the real fighting starts. the rest was all about strategic positioning
Dictators and even democratic leaders have been setting up Client Kingdoms for a few thousand years and getting away with it to a large degree.

No army is woke and that include's NATO.

NATO is a peace keeping force it is not an agressive one.

This nonsense is from far-right sources and part of their 'culture war.' Even saying Putin has been better because he's not woke.

It was a front page splash on the Daily Mail a couple of days ago and everyone was laughing at them that no one would take that seriously, however...

Was just about to post that.

Might be wishful thinking.

I don’t think it’ll change the short term as such, aside from damaging Kiev to the extent Putin will have to (and is doing already by the sounds of it) absolutely wouldn’t have been in his plans and might make him think it isn’t going to be anywhere near as easy as just putting in a pro russian government.

Wouldn't be surprised if he’s currently going mad at some in his inner circle who had probably been telling him the Ukrainians would all welcome it with open arms. They clearly didn’t give the army the right heads up or prepare them properly.

Which are?
“But it seems that the Russians are a bit surprised that the Ukrainians have fought back. And fought back well.

The Russians are taking casualties, which it seems they weren’t expecting. The Russian ministry of health had just effectively mobilised civilian doctors in Russia. One assumes to deal with the level of casualties being sustained.”

Unfortunately Johnson has long been in the pocket of oligarchs like Lebedev
Well he will be moved on as well then in that case. This demands pressure and if he can't , or won't, or is compromised then he will go. When the shit hits the fan, the establishment sort it. Billionaires losing money hand over fist is the way to solve this, as Biden knows and as G7 leaders know. Can't do it, get replaced for someone who gets it

Obviously we have relatively small armed forces in numbers but they are battle ready plus we have a nuclear option. Germany gets away with spending a little over 1% of GDP on an 'army' that never actually does anything. Many other NATO members are doing the same.

Again, as much as I'd want it to be true, I think it's wishful thinking, especially the second bit.

The other thing is I don’t think the Russian army were told there’d be much resistance and them all seeing how much there is is changing the picture too.

Problem though is in the short term, it means they’ll up their firepower. It all has an impact though, they’ve already created martyrs out of some of the Ukrainians and they have even less chance of having stable rule if they flatten their cities too.

Tell Alfons Mais, Head of the German Army, that complete pile of horse shit.

He is saying that he is pissed off as it is incapable of doing what in theory it is supposed to do....defend the nation.

You are aware that if a Khukuri is drawn from it's sheath/ scabbard, it has to draw blood before it is re-sheathed?
Usually a small nick to a finger is sufficient, but if not then you may have to let it bite a bit deeper!!!
