Agreed. I was basing my opinion on the assertion that someone doing something idiotic is an idiot at that point in time. The fact that Trump thought it was genius is all the proof needed.

I've said it before, he's one man. I know he's surrounded with yes men and to cross him could be fatal and paranoia probably reigns supreme but come on. If your in a position of power there and you see this person making a decision that's going to make your country international pariahs, not to mention cripple it financially or get it obliterated in a nuclear holocaust, you'd have to stop it.

Biggest thing to me is he’s spent twenty years very successfully disrupting European politics and sowing divisions that he’s completely undone in the space of four days.

I think he backed himself into this, it’s now a dead end street. He seems to crave adulation and power in equal measure, the man that stands up to the Western capitalist pigs. But this means he cannot back down without losing face, so once he’d made the decision to move troops to the borders ‘on exercise’ there was only one way this was going to end, invasion. Now he’s in he has to try and keep the bare chested riding, tough guy image, so he cannot withdraw. Destroy Ukraine or a truce that he can sell as victory (ie Ukraine giving up the eastern lands to Russia) can be the only acceptable outcomes for him - even the hardships that ordinary Russians will endure as a result of sanctions will be turned into some attack on them by the West which only he can defend them against.
 
I think one other thing is telling tonight, the Russian speaking Ukraines from the east, who have also fled, saying who does he (putin) think he's liberating us from, we love the country we live in, and they've gone west to flee.

He's made a terrible misjudgement here, and he's probably signed his own death warrant down the line.

He’s done more to unite divisions in the west in three days than any western politician ever has.

I had LBC on in the car earlier and there was some rabid brexiteer on saying they should seize the oligarchs houses in Belgravia and house Ukrainian refugees in them!

Imagine those words being said by a right winger even a week ago!

He should not of course, but common sense says they should not.

After the fall of the Berlin wall, there has been NATO mopping up of former Soviet states and Warsaw pact nations. These states are childlike, they want a big brother, so NATO the defensive alliance stepped in, It is the right thing to do to protect your brother, but and I say this from a Russian point of view " who protects me"

I am not a Putin apologist, that is Farage and the other western politicians bought by Russian money, like some in the Tory party.

I always thought what the assistant whispered into Marcus Aurelius ear was "Your son is a proper shit ****"
 
Sky showed satellite footage of 5km of Russian Vehicles heading for the capital of Ukraine there is going to be one hell of a battle and no matter how brave the Ukraine lads are it’s hard to see how they can possibly cope with that number of crack Russian troops

Ukraine’s population were massively in favour of becoming be part of the EU, and were expecting to join until their tosser of an exPresident refused to sign up. The current govt want Ukraine to be part of NATO for the exact reason of what’s happened over the last 8 years and beyond in Ukraine.

And it’s none of Russia’s fucking business what Ukraine want or do.
