Russian invasion of Ukraine

the world needs to financially "bomb" Russia into the middle ages. I'd guess that within a week they have gone from where they were to where they were just post the fall of the Wall - I am sorry to say it but if within a month we can make the average Russian potless cold and hungry and the average oligarch as rich as a UK printer ink salesman Putin will be a rich as the owner of a decent chippy but more importantly he will be out - viva another revolution

I maybe completely wrong, I normally am however I would suggest that China is also seeing this and is probably seriously questioning their stance on Taiwan. There is a new world order…called the internet, it changes everything

Am I imagining the upset in her voice?

The American right’s support of Putin really has thrown me for a loop, I thought they’d love snapping back to Cold War hysteria.
I refuse to even guess at what Fox News reports, jibberish BS

He's a right wing bully. They'll behave exactly like they did in WW2, by supporting the dictator right up until it becomes untenable, and they pretending to be patriots who were against him all along. It's already starting...

Out of interest.

If NATO did decide to attack Russia in response. Which countries would be on Russias side ?
Brazil
Honduras
Another Central American Nation
A couple more I didn’t catch
Edit: oops late , Sorry I thought you were asking who didn’t walk out at the human rights thing.

It’s not the American right. It’s Trumpians. They aren’t right. They’re in an authoritarian cult. And the leader of said cult made it proper clear his feelings on Putin (and other authoritarians).

ALL OF IT is pretend.

The “truth” is what gets you paid attention to (and paid) today.

To be fair we do tend to force our cutural belief of how a nation should run on others, with varying degrees of success from welcomed with opened arms or a hatred formed against the west.

There are over 20 different indigenous peoples in siberia and far easter russia left to live in their traditional ways in the wilderness, and though the majority of the population are now Ukrainian and Russian immigrants and so culturally are western russian in mind in major towns and cities.

Do I have faith if the west particulary the US decided to bring democracy and western culture to the indeginous population they would be given a choice? Well the fuck up in not understanding the tribes of afghanistan doesn't fill me with confidence.

Also the fuck up of backing pissed up nutcase Yeltsin over the dying embers of the communist party leadership led to the death nell for a european democracy and constitution coming into being in the 80s and allowed a totalitarian despot like Putin to come to and hold onto power.

Kicking the **** out is a necessity and sooner the better but foisting our values upon all Russians is a naive mindset and simplistic.
It’s not “foisting our values upon all Russians,” but rather “allowing the Russian people to have the self-determination all humans should have the basic right to expect, but which has been beyond their grasp to date.”

The people who found themselves between the German Reich and the Soviet Union would always find succour and comfort in the regime that wasn't occupying them, and would naturally support that regime..
A close friend of mine (now sadly passed) was the son of a Ukrainian who came here at the end of the war. His dad's family ran a farm and when the Nazis invaded they 'dealt with' the three brothers. One was conscripted into the German army, one sent to a slave labour factory in Germany, and my friend's dad left on the farm to produce food for the occupiers.
When the Soviet Union arrived, the one conscripted was sent to the gulag where he died after 5 years. The family, amazingly, received compensation from Russia after glasnost.

They've left enough ways to pay the russians open, and while europe continues to buy and pay russia will take the money, europe can't afford not to take the gas at this stage, so it will continue to supply it, no doubt increasing the price to boot.
EU and UK exploring alternative supplies. Germany building three LNG terminals. Ultimately, they must make exclusion from Swift complete.

We rely on China even more than Russia in Europe, I cannot see the same sanctions involved for Taiwan and sadly I think it’s so far removed from us that less of the public will care.

Ukraine is a huge nation in Europe so it naturally strikes a cord.

Sad for the Taiwanese mind you.
I read somewhere that China is cognizant of the potential for economic boycotts by the West if they get their policy wrong. If so, that gives us some hope.

This twitter account is not reliable it basically reports every positive rumour about Ukraine, so don't believe they are coming, but if these sanctions are possible...

I've never even considered the idea that Apple could just kill every iPhone in Russia remotely, or Windows lockout every PC connected to the internet.

Locking out PCs is a double edged sword. Internet
used by Ukraine to counter Russian propaganda and maybe useful in creating Russian opposition to Putin.

China shut Liveleak down. We had a year of Chinese videos poppin up how good the place is(proper North Korean propaganda shite). The videos of people getting eaten on escalators and their laws when people die /whos around are responsible hitting the west sent them over the edge. They bought it to shut it down. The media in the west wanted it shut for years. They don't want us knowing what's going on. Simple as that. Shut one, two pop up. fuck em!
