Russian invasion of Ukraine

Just watched BBC pictures of small groups actually crossing theborder into Poland on foot.
Clutching their few possession in plastic bags, kids carrying their cuddly toys with their dads left behind to fight for their country. Very touching.
Well done Poland.

Yes seen that and never thought it would happen again in Europe....is the UK putting on planes and transport to take people to UK as refugees? Boris talked about 200,000 but how can these people make it to UK with nothing? Would like to see UK and other western countries actually be more proactive and take strain off Poland and other countries on border.
 
What if the tactic is to let Russia fight this prolonged War, using majority of their manpower, artillery and weapons.
Let the sanctions really take hold and economically destroy Russia.

and then the west go to War with them …

Who's been saying they have been in control, I've not seen anywhere reporting Ukraine has or has had the upper hand. What we can all see and respect is the resolve being showed by Ukranians in trying to protect their land

Jeremy Bowen on Radio 4 this morning reminded my of Sun Tzu's Art of War - a bible amongst sales people - which I read maybe 30 years ago. Sun Tzu in case you did not know was a famed Chinese military strategist from around 500 BC and many of his ideas are very valid still today.

"The idea of giving your opponent a golden bridge comes from Sun Tzu’s, The Art of War. This interpretation usually comes from Sun Tzu’s advice about engaging in battle and in chapter 7 of the original text (“Armed Struggle”), he advised that “A surrounded army must be given a way out. The ancient rule of the charioteers says, “Surround them on three sides, leaving one side open, to show them a way to life. Show them a way to life so that they will not be in the mood to fight to the death, and then you can take advantage of this to strike them.

Even an exhausted army will fight if they feel there is no other option.”

Of course Putin is not surrounded on 3 sides in Ukraine. But he is internationally, very much so. What then, is his golden bridge? As Jeremy Bowen put it, if Putin is politically motivated, there may be a golden bridge. But if he is simply hell bent on taking Ukraine at any cost, then the likely outcome is fighting until the last and Ukraine being reduced to rubble.

Some, or many, who knows may have said just that. Trouble is they haven't lived to rell the tale?

And then the west fights a prolonged war with Russia and then China shows up to the party

I’ve see a few things of late that would suggest the opposite, especially with the impact of a nuclear winter.

Irrespective, we’re probably in agreement that if the US and Russia each released 6,000 Nuclear bombs, there will be Billions instantaneously killed and a fair few dying thereafter.

They don’t have that many each and after the first few hundred each, there’s be nothing left to send the next few thousand.
