Russian invasion of Ukraine

Lets just hope if they do any real damage to a nuclear reactor at the time of radiation release the wind is blowing Moscow's way

Hard to trust when it’s the Standard reporting on Johnson. Agree with the sentiment though
So you agree with the sentiment. But feel you have to insert your view of the Standard/Johnson.

Got news for you, no one is interested in your view of the Standard/Johnson, they are more concerned with the death and destruction occuring at the moment.

I’m interested in his view. There have been far too many lies from our PM and the press which support him to ever accept stories like this on face value.

I can see where your support of Johnson means you distrust the Standard because its editor is Osborne. However how do you explain the switch to anti-Johnson sentiments in traditional Tory papers like the Mail and the Express?

Well, given we’re lagging so far behind on sanctions and actual actions and that’s just words from our pm backed up by a pr piece from a newspaper owned by a son of an ex KBG oligarch that was given a peerage by our current government, I’d argue it’s entirely pertinent and should be of interest to anyone that does actually care.

Nothing to do with the editor, it’s the ownership.

on what criteria has his view on the standard got anything to do with a thread titled " Russian Invasion of Ukraine"?

I think I’ve answered that, but to say again it’s owned by the son of an ex kbg oligarch that Johnson gave a peerage to, I’d argue that’s pretty fucking relevant.

so why are the other papers turning against him?

Because we are lagging so badly on sanctions in comparison.

Like I said, I agree with the sentiment, I think Johnson has spoken well throughout and did again with that. Our actions have not backed that up though and my point on the Standard is that’s a prime example of where we’ve allowed Russian money and influence to infiltrate more than pretty much anywhere else.

Possibly. From what I’ve read their ocean surveillance is exceptional so if that was the mission it wouldn’t necessarily be crazy. The fact the Russians would see them there wouldn’t hurt either.
There are aircraft of all sorts along the border area, from various nationalities.
US, UK, Turkey, Spain, Canada, Italy.......F-16's, Blackhawks, Stratotankers, UK and US RC-135's, Osprey's, Global Hawks for surveillance and RyanAir.

Ryanair hijacked by Belarus again??

Here we go again, the thread hijacked.

I don’t really think it’s for this thread either, although I thought people would have put 2 and 2 together with what I said about the Standard, didn’t think it would create a discussion.

I’d argue it is pertinent though to argue the value add of rhetoric vs our inability (or inactivity) to sanction, particularly given the amount of Russian wealth here. It’s getting embarrassing given that’s the main tool the west has currently got and is using against Putin.

The Ukrainian leader is doing a great job but he needs to tone down his blasting of NATO for not helping. European countries are helping by taking in Ukrainian citizens, providing weapons and financial support. He knows the risks of what could happen should Nato countries intervene directly.
