Russian invasion of Ukraine

Exactly we are nearly 2000 miles, a sea and 5 other nations away from where misiles are dropping, we can all sympathise, donate aid and be horrified by what is happenimg, but unless directly affected most will carry on with life and the world beyond is just going on about it's business while looking on.

Seen the price of fuel recently?

This is going to impact all of us I am afraid, it doesn't mean we are going to have tanks rolling down our streets - but more holistic impacts.

Worlds fucked , no idea what or if Putin has a get out route, they are going to be isolated for years if he remains in power , Russian economy fucked , honestly reckon he will use nuclear weapons and that will be that .
If that's what you believe you may as well get yourself over to the Ukraine, and fight for your future,

Whilst I agree with this for the most part, we are moving into a period of massive ecocomic uncertainty and I think a lot of people are within their rights to be concerned about the impacts this is all going to have on them and their children if they have any.

As humans, we are quite good at burying our heads in the sand and pretending there are not issues afoot. I'm not saying people should be crumbling at the seems, but ignoring the fact that the next few decades are going to be extremely challenging -is also not really effective.
As long as there’s no nuclear bombs dropped I expect my next couple of decades to go quite well. Whilst that may not be the case for everyone I choose to live my life the best I can. You might think it’s burying heads in sand but to be perfectly honest it’s a much better option than the road you’re choosing to go down.
Each to their own.

Concerning just how much of this is going on right now. Become more apparent the last few days that many are trying to deflect from what’s happening.

Past 3 days I'd say there has been a concerted effort online to spread whataboutism. Twitter need to do more they always let bots and troll farms run rife and plant seeds of doubt.

During the Blitz in 1941 American journalist Ed Murrow did a series of radio broadcasts to the U.S., each beginning "This is London." In one of them he said "The people of this island would rather stand up and face death than kneel down and accept the fate that the conqueror would inflict upon them." That was London in 1941, now it's Kiev in 2022.

There was a well known event on the island of Crete at the Arkadi Monastery, in 1866, where the villagers committed mass suicide rather than fall into the hands of the enemy.

What road am I choosing to go down?

I';m guessing your one of these 'I don't give a shit about climate change/envionmental destruction and I won't adjust my behavior' types.

Pick a side in this conflict? I stand with the Ukranian people.

But I will not stand for people letting issues we have in our own governments and systems slide because 'Russia bad'.

Our government are a bunch of clueless twats and I didn’t vote for them btw. I also voted remain. I’m a progressive centrist and I believe in a free, connected global society.

Having said that I do think Boris and his rabble are handing this particular situation about as well as anyone.

So if I search for your name in the Covid thread, you won’t be on there moaning?
you will find me moaning, i do a lot of moaning but you wont find me climbing the walls in desperation because of lockdown, lockdown made zero diference to my life as i went to work as normal and sometimes it seemed only me and the ambulence crews were out on the streets, moaning and cant cope with lockdowns are miles apart matey

Lol, ok.

I’m one of those types who won’t engage anymore with dickheads so enjoy your life and hopefully you’ll make the world a better place one day.

Of course, but we were talking about how people are being mentally affected and the stresses the war is having on their daily life.

Oil prices and cost of living, are a different matter

I am finding it increasingly difficult to watch the 24 hour news. It’s like watching City 5 0 down and playing 5 v 11, only 100 million times worse, it puts EVERYTHING into perspective, well everything apart from why the EU are still buying loads of gas and oil from the cunts, and still allowing some of their biggest banks to operate on Swift. Effective sanctions my fucking arse

If only 5% of Germany’s gas supplies were from
Russia I guess they’d be able to manage without supplies from the Ruskies. Hopefully, we’ve stopped getting the measly 5% from them. I’ve cut back on fuel usage and if everyone else across our Country did so we wouldn’t need to buy from the Russians.
