Russian invasion of Ukraine

Vladimir Putin has said Western sanctions on Russia amounted to a declaration of war.

so why is it not WW3?

why not just enforce the no fly zone if he things we’ve already crossed the line
Who does Putin declare war on in that situation. Does he want to fight the whole world? ;)

Notice how he only says it "amounts to" rather than "is". He's calling the world's bluff and we're falling for it.

First bullet point of the UK Russian Report. :/

Humans are genetically aggressive and violent

In many ways, being genetically predisposed to killing each other means the most selfishly conniving human genes are the ones that continue as they’re the ones that survive and succeed
I guess you are right..maybe in another 300k years the diplomacy genes will have evolved.. hopefully not too late for all our future children.. Whether a fight in Moss Side after a match, a brawl in a pub,or countries fighting each other.. FFS sit down, calm down, listen and come to some reasonable agreement before people are harmed..in my life as a doctor the one thing I learned was to listen.

I don't think hitting back would be WW3, I think he's just pushing at the edges to see what he can get away with. If we push back I don't think it is necessarily WW3 unless we go boots on the ground in Russia. If we hit the convoy, put peacekeepers in and enforce a no-fly zone I think we'll get a hell of a lot of sabre rattling, but I think it will ultimately be hollow.

He's lost decent numbers against Ukraine alone, without NATO in there too. His lines are struggling for fuel, food and morale before he loses his biggest convoy. He doesn't seem to have a decent counter for drone strikes, never mind modern fighters. Now seems like the time to push back before he reinforces that convoy and they start rolling again. If he gets control then it really is over for Ukraine and he has a future platform.
i think he's just pushing the edges to although it would/could be very wrong to act on those feelings, he seems very concerned about the sanctions now where as a few days ago he shrugged his shoulders and says we planned for this, why be worried over santions IF you have plans to start a war with the west, maybe and its my take only is that we need to use more powerfull rhetoric that includes clear threats that we are prepared to enter another stage

I’ve seen a few threads today describing that 40 mile column of armour as the one of the biggest military disasters since WW2.

- The front has been taken out so it’s blocked.

- It’s run out of fuel, the batteries are almost certainly flat and the troops have no food

- its parked so tightly that refuelling trucks and food supplies can’t get to the front.

- As soon as anything goes off-road, it is lost to the mud.

- The Ukrainians can pick off any refuelling attempts with the drones.

- The only reason it is still there is because the Ukrainians don’t need to worry about it and can divert focus elsewhere.

- The Russian general was shot by sniper because he was forced/pressured to go to the front line to sort it out which points to it being a major embarrassment/issue for the Russians.

- Very soon the whole column will be abandoned as troops go to get food on foot.
Surely the Russian troops aren't just sat there in the vehicles watching Anne Robinski on отсчет времени перед запуском or playing Gala Бинго on their phones

Or maybe it's more nuanced than this and there are no 'good guys' or 'bad guys'. Western society has a lot of massive massive problems and we do try and play the 'we are the good guys' card way too often.

Capatalism has reaked havok on the planet and caused significant issues within our own societies. There are better alternatives than late stage capatalism and communism...

Taken from an opinion piece in the Guardian yesterday.....

"The same goes for the European Union. Britons, especially, came to associate the EU with trade at best, pettifogging bureaucracy at worst. When the EU won the Nobel peace prize in 2012, many scratched their heads with incomprehension. Well, there’s no excuse for bafflement now. Putin has jogged our memories that the EU was founded out of the conviction that the only future for a continent that had been at the centre of two world wars in 30 years was to come together: to share sovereignty rather than to kill for it. The sight of a khaki-clad Volodymyr Zelenskiy signing Ukraine’s request to join the EU, even as Russian forces approached, demonstrated again that for Europeans, the EU has always been about safety and peace. How shaming to think of the Eurosceptics who pretended the EU was some kind of foreign occupier, referring to it as the “EUSSR”. How shaming to think that the British contribution to this noble postwar ideal was to abandon it."
Ukraine could have been positioned as a useful trading bridge between the EU and Russia. (A bit like NI between the EU and UK.)

I doubt Putin would have welcomed it.

I think.

Worlds fucked , no idea what or if Putin has a get out route, they are going to be isolated for years if he remains in power , Russian economy fucked , honestly reckon he will use nuclear weapons and that will be that .
Cheerful soul.
