Russian invasion of Ukraine

On politics show this morning Admiral Sir Tony Radakin was on and said Ukrainian and Russian estimates cannot be verified at all so not to take any figure as fact.

I mean are Ukraine or Russia going round counting? Are they fuck, both will inflate and deflate the numbers for morale purposes, only at the end of this will the real figure be known
I much prefer listening to Sir Tony Radakin or his like than any politician.
Just a personal choice.

No I never asked if you trust Rees Mogg figures where's that from dear God you were prattling on about the UK having more Russian money to Seize is it true I doubt it very much but prepared to hear if you know better. I'd Check how much Cyprus, Malta and Switzerland have first though.
but I feel rather than slagging off the UK it would be better to concentrate on the atrocities being committed in Ukraine by our former Russian friends.
I'm not sure at what point you've dropped in to this sideline, but it was claimed that "The UK has sized 10x the Russian financial assets as the whole of the rest of the EU combined". It's even more than Rees-Mogg claimed in his tweet (which gave no source).

It's simple enough.

1. What's the source of the claim?

2. If even remotely accurate, is that because the UK has 10x as much Russian money to "seize"? (And nothing has been "seized", has it? Unless there's 300 billion pounds in a vault somewhere.)

And see separate post about "sanction".

‘When the Ukrainian president was replaced by a US-selected administration, in an entirely unconstitutional takeover, politicians such as William Hague brazenly misled parliament about the legality of what had taken place: the imposition of a pro-western government on Russia's most neuralgic and politically divided neighbour.’

It’s so insulting that these people think no one knows about the Euromaidan revolution and they can just characterise it as they wish.

Sanction.

A stupid word, when it means to penalise someone for doing something, or to permit them to do something.

Think it’s similar to “Now is not the time to talk about gun control” in the US following another mass shooting in a school.

Seamus Milne = useful idiot

Trump: We should take our F-22 planes, put the Chinese flag on them and bomb the shit out of Russia. And then we say – China did it, we didn’t do, China did it, and then they start fighting with each other and we sit back and watch

Gotta love how consistent he is with brain dead comments lol.

And yet people elected him. which perhaps shows there are millions of people that are thicker than him.
The world's had it.

The world's had it.

The scarier thing is that despite everything that took place during his presidency, he still has millions loyal to him.

This says everything you need to know about the general population.

Ah yes, Seamus Milne, the far left crank who was Corbyn’s boss throughout his time as Labour leader.

What is it with the far left and right that makes the cunts want to defend Russia so much?

I watched him this morning, he was asked if more Military power would be sent to the region. Straight away "We were the first to send lethal Military aid"

What is it with our top brass where we have to say this constantly, This line is thrown out everyday by our Ministers but to now have General's spouting it, I don't hear any other Country bragging about anything.

Brazen liar?

He claims the government is full of neo-nazis and “So you don't hear much about the Ukrainian government's veneration of wartime Nazi collaborators

His linked article mentions the far right party Svoboda… who have 1 seat out of 450 in the parliament.

Andriy Parubiy is the lead name…he’s been voted out of Ukrainian politics.

Dmytro Yarosh another far right person was voted out of parliament in 2019.

Everyone in the article he links to to prove how Ukraine is full of neo-nazis has been voted out.

What happened in 2014 is that the public voted to join the EU, the parliament voted to join the EU and the government and president said….no actually we’re teaming up with Russia.

It is true that when the people had to rise up against the corrupt and violent government the far right played a big role because they were armed. Since 2014 however, every single time one of them comes up for re-election they get kicked out because the normal people of Ukraine aren’t right wing and it’s a democracy now.

He does correctly say the revolution was unconstitutional - although he omitted that’s because the Pro-Russian government had suspended the constitution so there was no constitutional method available.

The thing that annoys me is that I’m no where near an expert on this stuff, I’ve only been reading about it in earnest for 3 weeks, but even I can spot the bullshit in the 2 contrarian takes posted today, so why can’t the Guardian at least apply some editorial standards to their op-Ed’s or offer a response from an actual expert?

Generalisation there, I am on the left as are my peers and none of us are defending russia on this.

My only criticism is some peoples blind faith in the lies being told on either side because it suits their narative.

This war has shown objectivity is impossible to many.

That was over 8 years ago and parliament voted him out for being a traitor. Nothing to do with the current administration, who took over from an elected administration via ballot.

It is like saying Johnston is US imposed by Trump. We still got to decide for ourselves in the end.
