We also have to take the Ukrainian refugees wants and requirements into account. We could offer to take 1 million, yet only 10,000 would accept the offer. Poland is the preferred choice due to a shared language, proximity and cultural similarities.

As much as we can praise Poland for accepting so many, its not really a crushing indictment of how many refugees the UK has accepted when Poland, Hungary and Moldova was the chosen destination.

Just listening to an English woman on 5live. she's in Calais and has been with a group of 100+ Ukranians who have been denied entry for varying reasons, one Ukranian woman with her 12year old son and her elderly disabled mum was told she couldn't come because her relative who lives here and has British citizenship is only a cousin and not a close enough relative. This cousin is her only living relative outside Ukraine yet we have turned her away and told her to go back to Paris.
The woman being interviewed said the 12yo was drawing a picture, it was of a house with a family outside and a bomb dropping from the sky, that's heartbreaking stuff and makes me ashamed of how our government is behaving.

You're right, it's just not good enough.
