The Ukrainian people are not going to accept 1/3rd of their country being given to Russia as reward for their war crimes.

They most certainly aren't going to cede their democracy and have Putin dictate their future as a country.

im not a political animal, but those countries share a border with ukraine, people are fleeing on foot into those countries, maybe that's why the figures at the moment look a bit top heavy , i'm sure with time we will have our fair share

You are correct that the true comparison should be with countries like France, Germany, Italy and Spain. I've not seen the figures but clearly France has allowed in far more than us as we've refused entry to quite a few already in Calais, and Germany was in the news when thousands arrived at the train station in Berlin. There was a Ukrainian woman on the news who was refused entry to the UK despite her only foreign language being English. Her son knew a bit of Spanish from school so they went there instead and the Spanish let her in. It seems that nearly every European country is being welcoming to the refugees whilst we're tying them up with red tape whilst boasting that we're leading the way. Embarrassing.

They don’t have to take orders when the orders are to shell fleeing civilians. Surely at that point you think to yourself we’re the ones very much in the wrong here.

That's a hard decision to make.

You're in a foreign country, frightened and away from your surroundings, an enemy all around you and then the consequences of your actions for you and those back home.

I'm sure most don't get any satisfaction from shelling civilians, much the same as many bomber crews in WW2 didn't get satisfaction from raining bombs on German civilians. Many struggle to live with it afterwards, but at the time, the job still gets done.

As I sit in my comfortable warm living room with my coffee, I realize just how fortunate I am.
