He wouldn't be anywhere near that successful if he wasn't that self absorbed.

It's a bit embarrassing, watching him do that celebration. For the reasons you outline. Even worse watching the great unwashed doing it in homage to him.

If one of us, Liverpool or Chelsea won the CL (and the odds on that happening must be pretty good), does that mean that United would be back in to the competition even if they finished fifth?

Dippers winning it and letting the rags back in in the process is the stuff of nightmares.
United will not get top four. I'd stake a lot of money on that if I had a lot of money. Long may their journey through the cold, cold desert continue.
 
So, after a 'brilliant' win where their hero scored a hatrick......
they are 5th.
Arsenal are above them with games in hand. Spurs, who they beat have games in hand and even West Ham are just 2 points behind.
