Why we will win the league!

They are undoubtedly better than us right now. Both in general performance and results. But go back to January and the reverse was true.

Things can change quite quickly. They have the bit between their teeth and we now need to push on and fight for this title. That lead came to us with some easy fixtures and good performances but now we have to work.

There is a long way to go. 9 games including a face off. The FA Cup and the CL. Plenty of games to find or lose form, to pick up injuries or get bad decisions.

I am staying calm (ish).

The game against Them is basically a cup final. Get behind the team and stop hoping other teams will take points off them. That negativity transfers to the pitch as we have seen Liverpool collapse in recent seasons. If they beat us well then its out of our hands

Seen a couple of posts on here suggesting it was only ever a 6 point gap.
After the home win over Chelsea the table read:

City P 22, GD 42, PTS 56
Chelsea P 22, GD 28, PTS 43
Liverpool P20, GD 34, PTS 42

No matter which way you look at this it is an 8 point gap at the least, and a pretty substantial lead with 16 games remaining and having played every 'top 6' team away from home.
Since then 7 points have been dropped in 7 games playing only two teams from top 10 in the process. This is not league winning form. By no means am I saying city won't or aren't capable to go on and win it, but surely questions have to be asked how from the position City were in after Chelsea thats its got to this?
I agree with this. Our form has dropped significantly.

Good job we've had the Haaland news to keep us excited & focused on the next half decade.

As soon as the window shut I didn't think we'd be winning owt without a striker - IMO we've overachieved in the league during the period when we went 14 points clear or whatever (plus covid fixture issues distorted that anyway).

It's not over but the momentum is all in the wrong directions.

The year we first won the league we were leading for ages then the rags came back went 8 points in front with 6 to play and we know what happened!

This Liverpool Side are a better side but we still 1 point ahead with 9 games left, we just have to be still 1 point ahead when we play Liverpool then let’s see what we made of! We take our chances we win comfortably.

I said I thought they’d win every remaining game weeks ago (excluding the one against us) and I still think they’ll almost certainly beat us to the title. We struggle against parked buses, and we will face at least 8 of those in our remaining 10 games, and when I say ‘struggle’, I mean just enough for us to drop points in a couple of those remaining fixtures. They struggle against nothing and have failed to score only once all season. They aren’t better than us in a head to head shoot out game, but the margins for error are infinitesimally small and that tiny flaw that we have may be our undoing. We absolutely have to beat them at the Etihad. A draw won’t be enough

I think that having to play them will do us a favour actually, as we need a jolt to get back in the groove and that game will provide it.

Beat them and we’ll win it.

Momentum is with Liverpool & so is their form. Sadly we seem to be dropping in form & missing too many chances.

Deep down we all knew we would miss a striker this season & it could be the difference.

we are the better team but top strikers win you cups & we have no strikers. Pep doesn’t even trust our subs

sadly I see Liverpool winning with a few points to spare now.

It’s all about mentality imagine we were chasing Liverpool and tonight we were 2 points behind Liverpool with 1 game in hand and we had to win to go 1 point clear?!

We win go one point clear we all be buzzing. All perspective.

Ain't winning it this season. Sorry to be a miserable git but this season they are slightly better than us. It happens.
I agree, but who knows, we are hardly out of it.

My biggest worry is I can find little to give me confidence that we will beat them at our place. Our record against them in crucial games is pretty iffy, and that's when we're on the top of our game which we certainly are not at the moment.

We will doubtless have all the possession, loads of half-chances and unless we get our act together, few if any converted. And they will catch us the counter with hugely more dangerous and effective strikers than e.g. Palace. I fear a carbon copy of the Spurs game... And pretty much every game where we've come unstuck.

I think it's a systematic flaw in our game right now tbh. We are far too "patient" (read slow) in our build up, allowing our better opponents to get their defences organized. Sometimes I think we could play for 2 hours without scoring. And as it goes on, inevitably with all our possession and not scoring we get more and more forward and more and more vulnerable to swift counter-attacks. We get away with it against dross, but increasingly the better sides have worked out how to play us I think.

And just to add to the pessimism, I think Guardiola - the best in the business at managing a team over a season - has got form in the "cocking it up" department.

Liverpool will be top when we play Burnley so we’re going to have to deal with that pressure. It’s vital that we’re not behind Liverpool when we play them.

We have to take each match as it comes. Liverpool are in great form and are winning without too many frills not too much drama.

I think if Liverpool win at ours they’ll cruise to the title. Similarly if we beat them I think the wheels come off a little for them.

I don’t think the next few months will be good for stress levels.

The worry this time is we usually have a blip and then go on a winning run. Weve been dropping points more regularly than usual in the back end of the sesosn and we look to struggle in front of goal.

dippers have the momentum no doubt With 9 wins on the bounce.

we know what our boys are capable of, lets hope we smash them at our place and revet to type.

The fact is, only Liverpool are on our level and in reality, currently above it.
All the other sides are in effect fodder for both teams - with the odd hiccup.
We were able to paper over the imbalance of having no striker for most of the time, such is the gulf, but now the pressure is on and with the tense business end of the season and CL to come, it comes back to haunt us. the Dippers have paced this well and have balance and firepower in abundance. Once again we failed to kick on after a good season.

Fair play to those that never lost belief, 14 wins in a row, I was certain we had lost it after Newcastle away, we are truly blessed with the best footballers and managers in the world!!

Anyone else lose a lot of money betting on the dippers to win it?

P.s. Fair play @mag, I need to become more of an optimist but use the pessimism as a defensive mechanism! CTWD

Oh and for any lurking dippers, hope you get beat by Spurs in champions league final!

I won a few hundred in 2012 betting before Rags drew Everton and lost to Wigan, 2014 betting after we lost at Klanfield and before Slippy G.
Keep the faith CTID.

There’s a quarter of the season to go, there was tears it’s unfair from everyone at Xmas when we went on a run, we’ve dropped a few points as you do & now it’s ready for the home straight. They’ve got to maintain this for another 9 games plus cups, that’s a lot of football.

The CL will distract us too much. Liverpool are on a roll. Having won it before, they're under no real pressure to win the CL and will, I suspect, have a more relaxed attitude than City.

I think we've got too many players 'running out of steam', largely because some members of the squad haven't stepped up effectively Pep's reluctance to use any subs on Monday spoke volumes for me. He no longer trusts some players to do a job, and doesn't think the youngsters are up to it.

Forget the CL...As I've said elsewhere on here, if we win the PL this season, it will be Pep's greatest ever achievement.

I don’t think pep has anything to do with it. We won 15 games on the bounce after an iffy start. Liverpools form is just very good. They had a rough spell in the middle but early doors they were good and more recently too. They are very clinical even when they don’t play particularly well.
