Liverpool (H) | Post match thread

We saw a level today from City, which, at times, is miles beyond anyone else playing the same game today.

We should have been three or four goals to the good in the first half.

A crazy opening ten-minute spell at the start of the second half cost us the three points, but we were still the team asking most of the questions.

Thought Ederson, Cancelo and Stones were ropey and Sterling was caught on his heels a too few many times, but all the lads showed the intensity we are going to need to win our remaining games.

Thought Rodri, Kev, Bernie and Phil were immense but Gabby was the best player on the pitch.

Liverpool were ordinary, to the point you wonder how they would manage without one of their strikers not coming to the rescue, as their midfield is fucking woeful.
Yeah, in both games this season we've been the better team and they couldn't have complained if they lost both. But they have Salah who in both games saved their arse.

We had the chances though and if we had a proper striker he would've finished both Sterling's early chance and Mahrez's last minute effort and the scoreline would have been a better reflection on the game.

Pep will know we are better than them, and they know it too.

In my opinion, you could add Laporte to the highlighted bit ;-)

They were shit all game and it was like playing Wimbledon back in the day, hooooof it forward and hope for the best, which they got on the 2 attempts on goal. We just failed to capitalise on our chances and today proved that we miss a top striker.

Sorry Razza, you really have got to be let go, you couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo.

Them balls running across the six yard box, a Sergio feast…
Cancelo and Walker both amazing apart from one or two brain farts
All day long mate Sergio would have had a field day.

Yeah agree about the brain farts but both more than made up for them over the rest of the game. Walkers recovery runs are something else!

Got in from the match, had a couple of drinks to calm the nerves. On reflection we should absolutely have won that, but on the plus side we didn't lose it. Its as you were in terms of the title. Nothing lost and nothing gained. The boys were magnificent today.
Not quite quite as you were

Before the match the title was in the dippers hands.. now it’s not

Great performance, good result.
Slightly disappointed we didn’t score more.
A proper striker and we win today.

Not Pep to blame for that one is it. FFP bollocks mean we can not go over budget for players and Kane (best available at the time) was priced out of our budget.
We pulled out righty so. Levy got greedier then he normally is after seeing us pay 100m for Grealish.

Fitting an out and out Striker into our play will be interesting next season, which 1 of the rotating excellent front 6 misses out?

Don't think it will be as straightforward as saying Haaland or whoever scores a bagful for us in our current set up.

We were excellent today but reckon Gundog finishes a couple of those balls across the box, but equally would we have created so many without Raz, Phil and Jesus playing how they did today?

This is what you get with Pep, so many qaulity midfield and forward options and no drop off when rotated,

I love it.

Got back to a pub in Chorlton and everyon - fans of united, toon, Wednesday, Barnsley, Chelsea, Norwich, Leeds, Bristol Rovers, Blackburn, Blades, Everton - are saying “How the fuck did you contrive to draw that game?”

Indeed. Should have been six points off them vermin this season. They know we are miles fucking better
The only team that can beat City to the title is City
I'm just hoping they have used (wasted) their luck against us in the league and we can deal with them next weekend within 90 mins and in the cl if needs be.

Five or six crosses right across their 6yd box, nobody anticipating or gambling

There was no striker available that was capable of replacing Sergio last summer, I don’t know why people struggle to understand this. Harry Kane wasn’t for sale and Dortmund wanted billions for Haaland.
Exactly.

It's not like we didn't try to plan ahead. Torres was bought as an understudy, but Barca turned his head and upset our plans. We also had a Palmer on the fringes from the EDS. If those two players had stepped up and made inroads then we wouldn't be having these kind of conversations about a lack of striker.

There's also the small matter of BEING TOP OF THE LEAGUE without a recognised striker, so it's not all that bad.

Offside is at the point of contact with the ball. If that is genuinely the frame they are using then it’s plainly wrong. Probably have to go back two maybe even three frames.
Here is the frame that *NBC SPORTS* showed to determine if Sterling was onside right after the goal, at which point the commentators agree he was just on side. This frame is inline with the rules for determining offside.

VAR subsequently used a later frame where the ball was well off Kev’s foot to determine Sterling was offside.

Everything about today was corruption in broad daylight.

Irrespective of what happens from here (and I'm confident we'll win the league after today), not replacing Aguero is the biggest f**k up of Pep's tenure.

That much is irrefutable.
An unpopular truth and despite what people say, Kane was for sale, just more expensive than we were prepared to go and in any case a make do would have sufficed in the meantime.

Yet reports said Levy insisted Kane wasn’t for sale. Yeah, City could have slapped £200m on the table and he may have budged. But City are a well run business. When Haaland is available for £64m the following summer and you’ve just gone a season without 30 goal a season striker and still won the league they probably weighed it up and decided to wait another 12 months.

The press/media are all saying what a great game it was.

I am struggling to agree with that, City were good but not at our best. Dippers were ok but not as good as City. City missed a hat full of chances cant really remember the dippers having many chances. I think only two corners for the dippers.

Perhaps it me but I thought our game against was rags was good.

I agree. Plainly inside.
