Russian invasion of Ukraine

And nothing really mate.

But it makes a big statement when the biggest economy and most influential country within in the EU to all intents and purposes sides with Russia, offering no weaponry help to those brave people in the Ukraine, and continuing to fund that absolute bastard Putin with his "special military project" which involves absolute mass murder.

Boris may well be a **** but speaking as a Brit in Australia I'm proud of the way the British have responded with all the help they have given.

The world could be on fire and the anti-Brexit mob would still be gibbering from their bath chairs. No credit where credit is due just political point scoring.

Nodding in agreement at your post, well said.

I have always believed that if the EU stuck to being a trading block, without all the top heavy administration and "parliament", it was something we should be a part of.

When it comes to unity over something like the Russian invasion of the Ukraine then it shows itself up as a collection of disparate nations with very little in common.

Id argue the EUs existence is the reason there was as strong a collective response as there was, particularly with sanctions. There’s no way there’d have been the same level without it, from certain countries in particular.

It’s that people still can’t differentiate between what is EU vs domestic accountability and choice.

Don’t think it’s a particularly relevant discussion to Germanys policy on Russia over the last ten years and longer either way though.

It’s a bit strange how Ukraine are simultaneously fighting to the death for their own sovereignty and pleading desperately to be fast tracked to join the EU, isn’t it? Someone like Nigel Farage or Bill from Bluemoon should tell them about how being in the EU actually removes all their control and Independence.

It's pretty remarkable how mere keyboard warriors are anti-EU point scoring when the Ukraine is fighting an actual war with the objective of joining the EU.

Germany is in mourning for the death of its two decade old Russian policy and struggling to come to terms with the fact it turned out to be a strategic mistake.

Even worst, it turned out that the Eastern Europeans were right all along.

Germany is always reluctant to change course - nimble footed it is not - but bashing them repeatedly over the head is the only way to get them to move. They’ll get there in the end, though.

No.

This is a discussion about war in Europe and the EU is entirely relevant.
There’s a politics thread for that chat and @Ric has asked on more than one occasion.

I really can’t be arsed wading through page after page of the same EU debate that’s been going on for years. It’s the same fucking people and it’s painfully boring. Usually by the same posters that frequent the other thread. Germany being cunts and not following through on offers of military aid has fuck all to do with the EU, it’s not relevant.

The fucking EU has quite a lot to do with Ukraine and this thread mate.

If it’s a discussion about the EU response then I think that’s fine. The last few pages have been about Germany though and conflating that with the EU. I’d say that is more for the political thread as it’s back to misunderstanding domestic vs eu accountability.

Correct, and people doing that conflation should fuck off to the political threads where they will have their arses handed to them for making a stupid point.

Change in tone from Zelensky. First public indication that Ukraine is getting the weapons it needs, also bearing in mind what is said publicly is bound to lag behind the reality.

Zelensky, tonight: "I am very pleased to say, with cautious optimism that our partners started to understand our needs better ... And when exactly we need this. Not in weeks, not in a month, but immediately. Right now, as Russia is trying to intensify its attacks." @foreignpolicy

That was exactly the point that some of us were making.

well, first time glad of brexit, not to be associated with those Russian loving Germans, gives a good feeling.

See above re keyboard warriors vs an actual war being fought with the objective of joining Germany in the EU.

That's great news, now go and kick red arse

I talked on Facetime to a Ukrainian Soldier in a school hall with his gun yesterday morning. He was in tears, banging his heart and saying that he and the other soldiers were "like brothers". He didn't have the English but the intimation was they would fight to the death.

What do you say in that situation? "Hope you kill some Russians"?, "Hope you don't die"?

Come on Ukraine.
