Real Madrid (H) | Post Match Thread

Mahrez was guilty of being greedy but phil had 2 good chances to score. Laporte also should have scored. Vinicius against Fern was a nightmare.

I’ve said it for god knows how long that Laporte has come back from his injury as a defender who doesn’t want to defend. He wants possession of the ball and for the most part looks a great CB when he has it. He has become so passive as a defender that it’s borderline negligence of duty.

At some point people are going to remember that Laporte cost us 2 goals tonight, 3 goals against Spurs, 2 goals against Lyon and we got to the final last year when he wasn't playing.

Football the winner tonight. Amazing performance by both sides. Imagine, beating the 13 time champions of Europe, feeling like we were burying them, but then only toying with that idea. If i didnt know any better id say City were giving Real a chance to stay in the tie. Anway well played City. Fernandhino great again. He loves attacking that right side. Bernardo strike gorgeous. Play to the whistle Real. Vinicius goal was at least 2 or 3 players fault but it was opportunistic which happens. Dont want to slate our players because Real are a quality side too. Hope the misses dont come back to haunt us. I would say go for it again, at the bernabeu City. We don't know how to play any other way.

Great from the guys in midfield and upfront, it’s a pity the guys at the back were so poor.
Dreadful from Ederson, sloppy passing in the 1st half put us under so much unnecessary pressure and of course, can’t make an important save when it matters. Another huge CL night and he costs us, just like his shit show at Anfield in 2018 QF, his shit show in 2020 against Lyon and charging out his goal to give Havertz an easy tap in last year.
Modric hit a trundler late in the 2nd half from edge of the box, which bounced about 4 times before it reached him and he still couldn't get down in time to stop it....very slow to get down to his left, see first goal.
Poor game management late on after we went 4-2 up.
Still think we will get through, we can't be as sloppy at the back again over there, can we?

If Walkers injured next week, its Cancelo RB and Zin LB. I would be fine with that. Also think both teams were setup to go all out. Rather than both having a defensive mare, the midfielders (specially Madrid) only attacked.
Hopefully Pep doesn't go down the Atletico (2nd leg) route, my heart wont be able to take that.

Shout out to the ref. Mostly ignored falling over fannyness from both teams. Played advantage for our goal. Got the penalty right, booked players appropriately and got Pep to shut up and apologise.

What a game. We can pick holes all night but what a game to be at. It had everything. If we go out then it will be our own fault but my god we get some entertainment. The Liverpool and Real Madrid games were two of the best I’ve been to in all the years there. Fantastic game and atmosphere.

Not the first time since he said that I've gone back to Pep's line about keeping the opposition alive!

But, what a game. Ultimately if you can't enjoy little old City in the semi finals of the CL battering Real Madrid in an instant classic then maybe football isn't for you.

I don't think they can stop us scoring in Madrid, so it'll have to be another thriller if they want to take us even to extra time.

1-0 with what I consider an unprofessional at times, performance.
Three times two goals up and didn’t shut the game out. That’s the real disappointment..
It’s not just the missing chances that needs addressing. I know Fern playing at RB will get the blame but I really think the rest of midfield were very slow in reaction. Bernie and Phil both scored but I thought they were slow in getting back to help at times.
I don think Phil played well at all in the second half.
That’s being negative I know, on a big night where we won.

But we were quite unlucky too.
And we could be unlucky over there too, if we don’t see out the tie like the professional performance against Athletico.
I think we’ll score over there. We just need to tighten up our all around game.

Fantastic performance tonight and hopefully we will have Walker or Cancelo back for the 2nd leg.

As much as I like Mahrez I think he cost us dearly tonight, fantastic assist but some poor decision making.

Can't help but think that's the best result we could have hoped for.

Had we pissed it the players would be on the beach for Leeds.

The lads will be fired up to spank the sheep shaggers and do the same in Madrid.

Don’t forget lads and lasses, this was a shit result as according to BT Sport tonight was “a moral victory for Madrid”

Weve just battered the best team in the history of this competition and should easily have won by scoring 7 or 8 but , no, it was a moral victory for the other team.

Absolute wankers at BT.
hahaha i’ll take match victory than fucking moral victor everyday.

Obviously the odds would be more in our favor with a 2 ( or even 3) goal lead, but teams sometimes go into second legs too nonchalantly when they think they’re already through and an early goal against can really be a mental problem. As it is, if we just carry on like we’re 1-0 up at half- time, we can hopefully maintain the momentum from today.

Mahrez actually contributes pretty well to the link up play, Sterling does not
Sterling had 4 involvements. His first 2 involved giving away needless free kicks by fouling. His 3rd was being caught offside and his final one was some half cocked effort at goal. In short he's completely incapable of being involved in such a highly technical game. AKA Dogshite!

Credit to Real for coming to play football as BT said. Even when we had them on the ropes, they didn't turn anti football. People defended Atletico Madrid but it's clear why those ties were flat.

This wasn't a good result.

It was a fun game and I know some people are just giddy because City have beaten Madrid, but this was a rare opportunity to kill the tie in the first leg, and avoid next week when they will have Casemiro back, they will be better because they're at home, and Ancelotti will adapt.

Very similar to the 2-2 Liverpool game. We left them alive.
Total bollocks. No one is getting giddy.

We attacked exceptionally well and typically missed a load of chances, get Cancelo and Walker back in and we should beat them comfortably.

They have to adapt but they also have to attack us which should play into our hands.

Can't help but feel like we wasted a golden opportunity to put this tie beyond them and it will end up biting us in the ass in the return leg
Tbh even with a 3 goal margin this tie wouldn’t be over
Makes us go over there and attack the game like we did tonight
Madrid know they got away with one tonight and will be very wary of us next week
