Real Madrid (A) Post Match Thread

The pressure of winning games and not being able to rest players in the prem took its toll tonight, Champs league is a step up, playing good football doesn`t guarantee you a safe passage to the next round (granted it should have done tonight) you have to be street wise and play the refs you only have to see what opponents will do to damage other players Casamiro tonight Rudiger last year they are not coincidences Foden could have had his leg snapped more than once tonight and if refs dont protect him he`ll be finished before he`s 23, The great ethical football manager pep is. he won`t tell players to cheat, that`s his only weakness in my eyes. Saying that it should come from the old heads on the pitch, thats why all the clubs in knockout stages play with there tried and trusted for 70 minute while we just go at it hell for leather . Great sides can beat the crowd ,the ref , and the opponents we are not quite there yet but with Sheik Mansour guiding us I believe we will get there one day, just have to enjoy the ups and downs along the way, fifty odd years a City fan and I promise you it`s never been better .Keep the faith

Not having all this bollocks about RM's mentality. They believed it was a miracle to be in the tie after the first leg. Tonight they just hoped for the best for two minutes (no method) and got lucky with the deflection.
100% spot on. Even their fans were leaving and they know what the team are capable of, which tells you that even they didn't think they would turn it around. Just because they scored 2 late goals doesn't mean they deserved it. It was just a fluke.

Just got back to my hotel after experiencing the torturous lockdown they put is in after the game. Seeing the Madrid players do a lap of honour and their crowd going mad pretty much finished me off. I’ve experienced heartbreak watching City, but them two goals were easily the worst. You just knew they’d score another once that first went in. They weren’t in the game for a large part of the second half and they looked dead in the 88th minute. Fair play to them, they never give up.

Let’s see how we get on next season with two strikers arriving this summer, we look weak without an out and out goal scorer and we’ve done well to get this far playing midfielders up front.

Shout out the Bernardo, what a player he is. If all our players had the balls he has then we’d clean up.

I think I've read sufficient posts now to ask the question .......Is there anyone who posted on the match day thread who said " this games not over yet "
or like me and many others thought it's in the bag well done boys?
Not in your exact words but a lot of come on lads, still time yet or we’ll now see what you’re made of…you believe till the final whistle. It wasn’t to be…I took a shower to cool my head and had a late night snack. Best to move on.

I can’t actually get my head around the fact we absolutely capitulated like that. Like others have said - we are a bit mentally weak in this competition but that was beyond anything we’ve ever done before. It’s astounding in such a huge game to throw it away like that. 6/7 minutes of total madness followed by half an hour of shellshock. This one really hurts.

Which is concerning when you consider how injury prone he is and how many howlers he has dropped. A real kick in the teeth though that both stones and Walker were injured for this big game and it will likely affect the run-in as well.
Tonight was a demonstration of how effectively we can defend without them!
So true...we get any attacks without walker and stones...scary. i love Laporte when were winning and stones and walker are there. Yes hes our best ball playing cb ..BUT...

Not reading 156 pages but had we gone through, 99% certainty we would have stuffed it up against Liverpool in the final anyway. At least we're saved from that nightmare.
This is the only small comfort.

Imagine going into that and they’re on for all 4…

Ironically I think Madrid have a better chance of beating them than we would.

ive said it for a couple of years but no idea who?
eddy is a top footballer we know that and can create goals but how many of these goals are winning goals compared to how many goals he doesnt save?
ive literally no idea who it should be but for me ederson is our weakest link.
Yep love him but just not very good im afraid

Well UEFA might allow them a better chance. Difficult to choose your favourite child

the dream was postponed again, it is not possible to explain to you what I felt when Real Madrid scored the second goal. here in brazil unfortunately the media is a fanatical real madrid supporter, i am very sad and tired.

It’s ok. BT sport are also fanatical RM supporters.

Does anyone think the CL will forever allude pep with us?
I'm beginning to think we won't ever win it with him, we just seem cursed.

Full media blackout now, it's only going back on if we're four points ahead with a game to go in the league.
TBH I blacked it out years ago. I switch on a kick off time and off at the end of the match. Heard all the BS for years. Listening to the RM-biased commentary on BT tonight should be enough to put anyone off the media for the foreseeable future.

Usually, I think your "PIGMOL" conspiracy theories are dumb, same as I think of every other PL team supporter and their fantasies. But the refereeing tonight was so bad that it bugged the hell out of me even as a neutral. The lack of yellow card (well, red card, really) for Casemiro was insane and the amount of injury time was outrageous (plus blowing before even 3 minutes of it were up in extra time). It's no wonder teams engage in timewasting - my least favourite thing in all of football, above even diving - when it's so thoroughly rewarded. Well-conducted studies of injury time vs actual countable stoppages according to the laws of the game consistently find that injury time is less than 50% of what it should be (and, in extreme cases, usually at the tail end, often a third or less; halves with >10 minutes of injury time shouldn't actually be uncommon according to the laws of the game). I happened to be casually monitoring the second half of extra time (because I was watching a recording and could skip stoppages) and I got nearly 5 mins of countable stoppages (which should've been rounded up to 5), so of course the whistle blows on 02:49 or whatever it was. Finally, the 50/50 decisions were pretty wildly in RM's favour too.

I mean, in terms of probability and statistics, even with an overall equal distribution of reffing mistakes across all matches, there are just some games in which one team is going to get reamed through pure chance. And this was probably one of those, rather than any kind of organised conspiracy, but it still fucking sucked. As a patriotic, PL-supporting football fan, I badly wanted that all-England final yet again, and for the dominance of the PL on the continent to continue.

ETA: Plus, despite my neutral status, Liverpool are lowkey my least favourite team in the PL and I have an irrational dislike of Salah -- possibly because he gets more individual awards than Kane, who I like, and sometimes robs him in direct competition, purely because the former plays for a big team and is African (making him eligible for all kinds of extra awards, and granting him bonus points in this post-BLM/CRT/whatever era). Sidebar: Kane badly needs to GTFO of Spurs; he got absolutely robbed in not winning a single major POTS last season despite his Golden Boot/Playmaker double (KdB was great too, tbf, but I thought Kane was better, and, regardless, no way was he not good enough to get one major POTS out of 3 or 4 on offer). I was literally (almost literally) praying for Kane to get a City transfer last summer -- I think it would've been great for both parties and that the league would already be done by now if City had him. Anyway, a RM vs Liverpool final is kinda weak. I'll be supporting Liverpool more out of a sense of duty than any real sentiment. In fact, I might not even watch it. IDK.
