It's getting to the point Charles Dickens novels are reflecting modern life again.
That would be the Grant Shapps who last week announced the Great British Rail Sale just before the elections...Shapps turn today to make a public oaf of himself. Theo Usherwood rang the electoral Commission who said they aren't interested - its a factual announcement and in any event the Mayor of London is not in any election on Thursday so its outside their remit. I think given no objections were raised by Shapps own dept when they were informed a week ago probably doesn't help his case

Crossrail row as Grant Shapps accuses Sadiq Khan of breaking election rules
The Transport Secretary said he would report the matter to the Electoral Commission watchdogwww.standard.co.uk
I love it when upper middle class types come out with advice for saving money and it's just stuff that every working class person has always done. I read a list from the Telegraph on Twitter the other day and the first suggestion was that you can actually save money by using your dishwasher instead of washing up by hand.Fucking unbelievable aint it.
I live in a decent area and already Lidl is the busiest supermarket around, Useless has no fucking clue of real life, none of them do.
I fear we will see food riots in this country before long.
Is this the Electoral Commission that the government has just taken control of?Shapps turn today to make a public oaf of himself. They want to make sure it does what they tell them to do.yeah but they don't seem to know what it does lol
Oh they do. Why would you want control of this independent body if you weren't going to break the law?yeah but they don't seem to know what it does lol
Perfect analogy. Not just the people, more the fact that their mantle is exposed as a cheap alternative because the so called ‘middle class’ will no longer be able to replace the expensive stuff.
just Tories being Tories

Government U-turns on support for fair tips in hospitality - Hospitality & Catering News
By Denis Sheehan, Publisher, H&C News: Government U-turns on support for fair tips in hospitality. The FT is this morning reporting that government are set to U-turn on their commitment to stop people working in hospitality losing out from employers withholding tips. New legislation to make tips...www.hospitalityandcateringnews.com
Why is this bad?
The gov.uk link is from September, apparently reiterating a policy floated 6 years ago. That would mean employers would need to pass tips on.
No argument that that's a good thing.
The FT article says it's going be dropped from the Queen's Speech, so it won't be made law.
Blueinsa. I don’t think it’s bad, but a question on why the government has dragged its heels for over 5 years should be asked to add context. You could say that the government are being creative and useful in doing what they are elected to do and helping the hundreds of thousands in hospitality. You could also be cynical and say that they are desperately searching down the sofa for any loose change to pass over to soften criticism. Why is this bad?
