We had 5 midfielders rotating round the 3 positions this season. (Plus Foden, Grealish and McAtee)
Should we lose two and buy one, we’re down to 4 for 3 positions, plus the others.
We would be screwed with a long term injury.

Maybe we are wanting the cash and wages for de Jong? Fernandinho and Gundogan off the wage bill will surely be £300,000 plus a week?

Kalvin Phillips is not on our level nor is he good enough to be a Gundo replacement imo...

I’m sure Pep will say that if it is the case. It also solve the problem of what to do with Foden/Grealish now the false 9.Foden moves to midfield, Alvarez replaces Foden in the front 3.
Plus Haaland playing will mean midfielders not playing false 9.
It may weaken us for a bit though.

On the face of it, no. Fernandinho needs to go though and I think we can upgrade on gundogan, whilst I also think he's a poor choice for a captain or vice captain (his speech saying how scared he was pre champions league final wasn't exactly inspirational)
It's time to refresh and upgrade I think, just hope we get a top replacement for ilkay. All the best to him he's been a very good player for us, but I can see why he's leaving (injuries, doesn't fit well with kev in midfield, past his peak, think we can upgrade)
