That's not how any contract works though, is it?

If you sign a contract to move into a house beginning July 1st, you don't have to pay the rent on that house in April and May.

When you change jobs, you can hand in your notice after signing a contract to begin work at the new place in 3 months and your old job is still paying you for your notice period.
Contracts for the sale of land are not comparable to employment contracts, but your second point about how you can sign an employment contract to take effect on a future date is correct. He may have signed such a contract but we would not announce it until his current one ran out.

If I had to put money on it, I'd guess they're doing a massive unveiling around him wearing number 9, and they're waiting to wrap up Jesus's transfer to Arsenal before pushing the button.

The Norway manager said he's not been announced yet, not he hadn't signed yet.

Very weird we haven’t announced it.

Even weirder the Norway manager’s comments today.

Slightly worrying.
Not weird at all - he's basically saying it hasn't been officially announced therefore we're not going to talk about it. Just a way of trying to get the press to shut up about it and concentrate on the games in hand.

Football contracts are a bit weird like that, especially so when they have buyout clauses.

However, clubs become immediately accountable for payroll as soon as they are in possession of a players' registration.

I'd imagine Jesus to Arsenal could happen very quickly if they're serious.

Brazil only have two friendlies and are done by the beginning of next week.

I see no reason why he wouldn't want to get things sorted ASAP, then go on holiday with the family.

If we think Jesus leaves in the next couple of weeks, it makes sense to wait and announce Haaland with the number 9 shirt.

Which we can't do until July 1st anyway.

People have seen pictures from last week of him hanging around the Etihad campus with a City shirt on with 9 on the back, it's highly unlikely that he'd do that unless it's all nailed firmly down.

Flappers will flap {sighs}.
