Shame Chelsea ruined him. He was a pale imitation of the genius we enjoyed in his first spell at the club.

Or maybe, rather than Chelsea ruining him, when in a team of players as good or better than him, he was never going to stand out like he did first time around with us. Same with Grealish unless he improves.

As a youngster it was Rodney, then Mike Channon (made the BBC 9 o' clock news !!) followed by Trevor Francis. I was really excited about Sylvain Distin joining too, didn't expect him to leave Newcastle for us at that time. I take most of the overseas ones as they come because I never closely follow other leagues too much but Haaland is very, very interesting

Shaunie Wright coming back
Tevez
Agüero
Pep
Bernardo Silva (had been the best player we’d faced the previous season)
Haaland

Rodney Marsh , then Trevor Francis, shows what I know.
I’m right with you. I think Colin Bell was the signing that made me giddy but Marsh and Francis were huge stars at the time and were real statements of intent by the Club.

i was a huge Rodney fan. When he was in the mood he was as good any player in the World. Trouble was he was terribly inconsistent and in hindsight he was a poor signing. He spoilt the balance of the team and probably cost us the title.

I must admit I am giddy about Haaland and Alvarez.

Agreed mate wish he didn't go but for the money at the time we had no choice but to cash in

Surprised nobody's mentioned Anelka yet!

That was huge and signing him was a proper coup at the time. After hearing we were in for him I kept expecting that to fall through.

He did well for us, stayed committed and probably did as well as he could.
I’d forgot about that one. I loved anelka. Was a cut above most in that squad as much as I loved most of them. He had everything that a forward needed and he must look back on his career with some regret which when he’s played for Arsenal,Chelsea, Real Madrid and City must be crazy in itself.

That he came to city arguably in the prime of his career says a lot about where he was heading at that time. To be fair to him the first two seasons he was spot on and I did think after his first season a few clubs may have been in for him.

But yes that summer of 2002 was the nuts. Anelka/foe and distin was a cracking transfer window.

I think Haaland is the only signing that has made me giddy. All those wonderful players we’ve had ended up being dream signings but we we didn’t know alot about them before they arrived. I think Robinho was an exciting signing because he was a flashy Brazilian. We know much more about Haaland and the whole world wanted him so it’s right we should all be excited.
