It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

If we lose Jesus, Sterling on top of Ferna and fail to replace them with the right quality which is incredibly difficult to do we are 100% weaker overall.

If Bernardo goes on top of that which at the moment is looking a very real possibility when Barca flog FDJ then we are in a bit of trouble. You can’t replace a player of Bernardo’s quality.
You can and we would, just like David Silva, Kompany, Toure, Aguero, Fernandinho.

It still takes time to find the right player to replace them which for this season is one step far as we have a thin squad

I reckon this could be the end mate. Sheikh cashing in. He will take the 200+ million and run :(

On Sterling and Jesus. Let’s not kid ourselves. Both players are not integral to city. Jesus never was. Sterling was a key player but now he does not back himself to start in this city team. What’s wrong with making changes? The squad has been crying out for a revamp now for 2/3 seasons.

It does not have to be black and white. Both players have contributed immensely and hopefully both bring in a decent fee. It’s a win win for the player and the club.

Notice how everyone wants Bernie to stay but not the other two. Squad players at best. If we do get a dm and a lb along with Haaland and Alvarez I would be content to give palmer a chance. Let’s be honest, if there is any area we are stacked in it’s midfield.

You never know we might get a winger aswell. Haaland is gonna tear it up. The departing players goals are already covered.

We got to believe that the incoming transfers will be able to step up otherwise no point buying them. Trust the club.
problem with this

Sterling at one point was integral..his goal scoring speaks for itself - he was close to producing Messi/Ronado type numbers a couple of seasons back. His form has dipped but he still weighs in with important goals and assists. he aslohas somethign that now only Haaland has and that is genuine pace and going past a man on the outside..something that both Grealish and Mahrez are poor at. His work rate is exceptional.

Jesus has always had his problems in front of goal - no one can deny that - his finishing needs to improve but as far as work rate, passion, drive pressing...again others that w will be left with fall well short - noteable Mahrez and Grealish again.

Everyone wants Bernie to stay because of the attributes mentioned above coupled with the fact that he is an exceptional talent...if Mahrez worked as hard as Bernardo Silva he would be close to being the best player on the planet and Grealish would be a shoe in for a first team place every week - however again, neither do

Now I accept why both Sterling and Jesus may want to leave and if they do they go with my best wishes...both have earnt it.....however Bernardo Silva leaving would be a huge mistake and loss. Cole Palmer maybe a very good player and could turn into an execptional one but Mahrez (only due to application and attitude and heart) along with Grealish, are way way off ...Grealish for me was a midtable, typically overhyped Engliand player when he arrived and still is and if we are going to lose them 3 and not replace them he will need to step up immediately the season starts and maintain it - he has a long way to go before he looks anything like a city player under Pep. Mahrez is great against the average teams and in the CL but in the big games in the prem league - he often goes missing and lacks bottle.

Gundo as good as he is, is another year older and his back problems are well documented and he struggled at times last year. KDB is another year older...when he struggled last year who stepped up? - Bernardo Silva

We will lose a lot of fight/drive in our squad losing these 3 players.

I hope TH is right that if we do lose all 3 we will go big for someone but god knows who that would be

We won’t need to fight for wins anymore. Haaland will have us 3 up before HT. we need players who can play with their feet up going forward -:)

What about a punt for Rashford? He seems depressed at the rags. Good PR even if he turns out crap.

Just one point - Jesus has a minutes per goal ratio that is well above anyone else in the squad.

I do agree that Sterling was our most important game changer for much of his time here, and even though he's dropped off from those two sensations seasons he had, he's still up there with De Bruyne for game changing play.

I may get lynched for saying it but Neymar may not be the bad egg in the dressing room people make out. He’s obviously liked by all his PSG teammates, he was at Barca too and in the Brazilian squad as well.

Reminds me of Pogba (known to be positively vocal in the dressing room and also helps with young players) where it’s become the norm to see them as knobheads and poison in the squad because of preconceived opinions you have about them rather than any facts.

Personally, I’d be all over Neymar given the chance but doubt it’ll happen but both player and Pep have given public praise about one another in the past.
I don’t think he’s a bad egg but I don’t think he would fit in here. When we played PSG his work rate was absolutely laughable (granted the same could be said of their entire front three). His transfer fee would be mental as well unless PSG need to let him go to pay for Mbappe’s deal. Spends too much time on the floor and moaning at refs and not enough time working for me. Insanely talented though

We won't need to replace Jesus as we already have Haaland and Alvarez. Sterling and Bernardo would need replacing though especially Bernardo. Selling those 3 would give us a hell of a transfer kitty to bring a couple more in.

lose the creativity of Bernardo, the running that creates space from Jesus and sterling, the pressing of those 3 and not to mention the defensive work of those 3 when running back towards their own goal and he will have to

I think people underestimate the work rate of the 3 we are talking about leaving and how the ones left lack it

Haaland replaces aguero
Alvarez replaces Torres
So selling Jesus leaves a gap in the squad

And selling Bernardo and Sterling leaves a hue gap as you say

This thread is as bad as the losers on twitter. Someone randomly makes something up and mentions Neymar and the thread then dedicated 50 pages talking about something that will literally never happen.

Pep doesn’t have teams without workrate, here’s a theory what if Foden played where Bernardo has played, does he lack the work rate, no, the goal threat , no, the skill, no. After all Bernardo has played where David played and Pep has said previously we didn’t need to replace David we had Foden.

Palmer is ready for the step up, he’s looked the part when he’s played for the first team and he’s far to good for EDS level, he takes the piss at that level. It’s going to be an interesting summer. I’ve got a feeling that Bernardo will leave and Foden will permanently drop back to CM, then we’ll sign a LW.

Grealish/new LW
Haaland/Alvarez
Palmer/Mahrez

That’s strong attacking options. Neymar is a **** but I think Pep would rejuvenate his career. I haven’t seen much of Leao, so I can’t really comment. Felix isn’t a LW, but maybe Pep could see him in that position. Nkunku would be at the top of my list. He can play across the front four and even a bit deeper.

Alvarez is a fantastic talent and ready to play a part for us - in the middle.

He came through at River Plate as a winger and was regarded as a good young player with decent potential. But it's only when he went through the middle that he exploded. He's a fantastic finisher, good with both feet, he presses well, he's stocky and strong and he's not slow. But he's probably not as fast as Jesus and certainly not as fast as Sterling. Alvarez is Gabby's replacement, pretty clearly - a back up striker who can also cover the wings and press. He isn't at the same level technically but he could end up being a world class centre forward, and a very good inside forward.

He isn't as good as Gabby on the wing, and Gabby isn't as good as Raz on the wing. The idea that Alvarez is a suitable replacement for Sterling is nonsense.

If he's going, fine. Get the best fee and get it done. But if we've got to within a year of his contract running out and we haven't identified a suitable replacement, it's a failure IMO.
