At 10:30pm (ish) NASA will be releasing the first picture from the James Webb Telescope.

Tomorrow there will be releasing another 4 or 5. I'm looking forward to the deep field one looking at a gravitational lense of a number of galaxies, 13 billion light years away.

LIve stream here

Wow, cheers for the link, it's saying it will begin shortly.

Just watched it on the news - mind blown..................... I am from an era of grainy images of " One small step for man.... " - Jeez this is mad.........

“This first image from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope is the deepest and sharpest infrared image of the distant universe to date. Known as Webb’s First Deep Field, this image of galaxy cluster SMACS 0723 is overflowing with detail. Thousands of galaxies – including the faintest objects ever observed in the infrared – have appeared in Webb’s view for the first time. This slice of the vast universe covers a patch of sky approximately the size of a grain of sand held at arm’s length by someone on the ground.”

That’s just so crazy and shows just how insignificant we are.

That image looks like the one from the hubble telescope on the horizon programme I've just watch on BBC4.
It’ll be interesting to hear what they think they’ve discovered from this as, like you, I’ve not seen much that the Hubble has already shown.

I’m sure there’ll be loads to see when they’ve analysed the data.

And to think we are looking back in time at these Galaxies as they were millions of years ago -a Space and Time incomprehensible when there wasn’t even a notion of our Solar System let alone us, our Solar System and the Earth

It always freaks me out this looking back In time business with the Speed of Light etc
