It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

A replacement doesn’t have to be bought

No not at all. The context however was squad size over the length of a season, and Palmer is already here sharing that load. Maybe shares more, maybe not. While at it, I'll say quality too is a consideration too, Palmer's and even Grealish's based on last season, in comparison to Sterling's, is for me a big drop (leaving gabi out of it, as assuming for arguements' sake Alvarez will cover that). But then we have signed Haaland, who will bring a whole new level to the team. As above, not convinced yet, but open minded.

I’m not in anyway panicked I’m just merely pointing out lack of options last season effectively cost us 2 final places. The 3 paragraphs was more of a reflection of my boredom than anything else.

Football is cyclical we can’t become complacent and at times I think we rely on peps brilliance to paper over some cracks I.e no left back and no striker last season yet we still won the league. We also didn’t replace kompany and as a result we suffered in the league. The club is run amazingly well but they are not infallible.

To compete in the 4 competitions (which is obviously our aim) I think we do need more numbers.
The original post wasn’t directly at you, more you and others. A general flappy atmosphere amongst many.

The second post was though and most of your reasoning here is pretty fair. I just feel the club deserves trust that even if they don’t do all the necessary business immediately it will get don’t in time and it will get done right.

Think we are gonna get a contract extension everyday?

Foden, Mahrez, who else needs extending?

Just to add it's only perhaps 3 seasons ago we only really had the 21 registered players no club trained and the u 21s we had weren't really first team players. So even if we go with 20 registered plus Foden and Palmer we are better off than then, and they are all top level players, I think that's what I mean by saying the squad isn't particularly shallow.

3 seasons ago? That's when we last lost the title.

Since last summer we have lost:
Fern, Torres, Sterling, Jesus, steffen, mendy

We have so far signed:
Phillips, haaland, Alvarez, Ortega

squad as it stands:
Ederson, ortega

Walker, cancelo
dias, stones
laporte ake
zinchenko

rodri phillips
gundogan kdb
bernardo foden

grealish, mcatee
haaland Alvarez
mahrez Palmer

Can’t help but feel the squad is too small as it stands and doesn’t have the same quality of depth as past seasons. Concerned with the reports from Pol and Sam that cucurella is being put on the back burner to see what happens with ake. We need 4 full backs so surely the ake situation is separate.

Will be pretty frustrated if we neglect the full back position again this summer especially after what happened in the champions league. We have sold Sterling and are seemingly not replacing him so surely that money could be used to sign a full back.
Said similar in the Cucurella thread

Ake can cover both lcb & cb & is supposedly interested in more game time at Chelsea. If we sign Cucurella 1st, who is mainly a lb or left wingback, then Ake or Pep & City decide that its to good a deal to refuse, it makes it harder to bring in a replacement for Nathan with even less game time.
We should give Chelsea an ultimatum, sign Nathan before 1st August or the fee goes up £20m

How can a team bringing in Haaland, Phillips, Cucurella, and Alvarez be considered complacent in any way shape or form? This is getting more ridiculous by the day...

We only suffered for 1 season in the league & then signed Dias, Garcia deciding he wanted to go back to Barca probably accelerated that. I'd rather we look long term rather than short term even if it means short term pain.
If selling Raz & Jesus means Bernardo stays & Palmer gets more game time, then it will be worth it.

We threw the fa cup at the semi final stage (again) as everyone said we needed to rest players at that stage. That horrible team managed to play every single game last year, as mentioned during the season their depth probably eclipsed ours. Considering our recourses I don’t want us to get deep into a comp and feel we have to forfeit it
Our team got a kicking in Madrid a few days before the semi. The Dippers had a home tie against Benfica where they rested first teamers.
Went to the semi final and was gutted on the day but throwing it was the right thing to do. I think the Dippers have got a bigger squad than us but they burnt out near the end. Klopp was prioritising the CL went he sent out the reserves at Southampton but they got away with it

We actially threw fuck all. Stefan had 2 major brain farts and Jesus missed a fucking sitter to make it 3-3

Again if we didn't have Laporte,Stones and Dias already at the club then we would have a good chance of attracting a quality replacement.

Bernardo obviously needs to stay, but Palmer is nowhere near good enough to adequately replace Sterling. We need a signing at least on Sterling’s level because over 60 games we cannot afford a drop in standard when we have injuries and/or suspensions, and CL games two days after a league match, etc.

We can put out an absolutely superb first XI when everyone is available, but over so many games we need double that amount of players without the drop in standards a young kid causes. We need a left back, hopefully Cucurella, and a top class right winger, ideally with pace.
