Official silly season question

Wycombe away. I used 4 days of leave from iraq to get there, shafted by raf on return flight from brize and a night in the block for late return.

My memory is a bit hazy but losing 0-1 at home to Lincoln in the second leg of the Auto Windscreens or it's equivalent. If I remember correctly we lost the away leg 1-4. The goal was really soft as well I think.

That was the League Cup, in the away leg we scored after a couple of minutes and then fell apart. The only other thing I remember about that away leg was the rumour going round the City section that Kinkladze was about to sign for Arsenal!

Was at the game : I can still picture Kinkladze receiving a pass very early in the game and a Port Vale player totally wiping him out with an absolutely career ending sort of challenge. The referee did absolutely nothing and continued refereeing the game in a similar manner. On first reading the thread title , I immediately thought of the Bury game ( mentioned elsewhere in the thread) at which I spent most of the game shaking my head at the shear ineptitude of Frank Clark's master plan of playing one forward against the might of Bury! Happy Days.
How about Bolton at home who had no shots in the match only for dunne to give a90 minute penalty lost one nil!

There was a game under Pearce at home at the Etihad (I’m pretty sure it was Bolton or Middlesbrough)… neither side had a shot on target and we scored an own-goal and lost

God that was a turgid game
Boro. We actually played well in that game. Schwartzer has a worldie… they didn’t have a single shot on target and one one off target and Sun Jihai scored the own goal.

But while his side enjoyed more possession than Boro, and created plenty of chances, it was a frustrating opening period.

The home side could have taken the lead on 12 minutes, as Trevor Sinclair hit a long-range shot which Schwarzer did well to tip around the post.

Schwarzer was in action again shortly afterwards, saving a Wanchope header from a Shaun Wright-Phillips cross.

Richard Dunne also headed just over as City put the pressure on Boro, although they could not find a breakthrough.

And they were made to pay for their lack of a cutting edge on 30 minutes when Middlesbrough took the lead.

Juninho took up possession in midfield and fed Gaizka Mendieta, who crossed - and after Dunne miscued his clearance, Sun Jihai somehow managed to divert the ball past Ellegaard.

City continued to push forward, and Boro were thankful to Gareth Southgate who blocked efforts from Wanchope and Trevor Sinclair.

Wanchope also had a penalty appeal turned down after seemingly being impeded by Danny Mills in the box.

And Schwarzer was called into action again, tipping away a piledriver from Reyna, as Boro held out until half-time.

Franck Queudrue's speculative effort in the early stages of the second half flew wide as Boro moved to kill off the match.

But City remained a threat, with Dunne's aerial prowess nearly paying off on 51 minutes as he header just over.

The lively Wright-Phillips blazed a volley just wide, and then forced another save from Schwarzer as City began to wonder if it was to be their day.

Fowler, brought on for Sun Jihai, had a couple of chances, shooting wide and heading at Schwarzer, while Wanchope's ambitious overhead kick was also saved by the Boro keeper.

And Fowler missed a gilt-edged chance near the end to seal ill-fated City's defeat.

Lincoln away in the cup, lost 4-1, think Rosler put us ahead, too.

Lincoln away 98/99 in the league, lost and were clueless. Vowed I would never go again.

Following Saturday back in the car up to Manchester, lost 1-0 to fucking Reading.

Can I add a couple of CL second leg games where we'd won away but produced shite performances in front of paying punters in the return.
Dynamo Kyiv - 3-1 away but a dead 0-0 at home.
Steaua Bucharest - 5-0 away and scraped a 1-0 at home.
Basel Brush - Won 4-0 away but lost 2-1 at home.
Sporting - Won 5-0 away followed by 0-0 at home.

When the club shifted me and the other FOCs from CBL3 to the squishy seats on L2 and at 3pm we kicked off v Forest Sometime later we lost 3-0. I think it was a toss up between being shifted or Didi started as to what was to blame. And the following week we didn't get Kaka. The bastard bottled it!

Bolton 0-1 last-minute penalty after we had hit the woodwork a billion times.

Edit I see I have been beaten to the punch. typical city
