West Ham United (A) | Sun 7th Aug | Post Match Thread

Bit different than last week on here as we have just took apart a very good team at a ground which is difficult to win at . Can’t wait for when we really start to play with a number 9

A good strong & dominant performance. In the first half WHU were abysmal & just sat off us & allowed us to stroll around the pitch & pass at will. You can only play what's in front of you & they made a grave error. They allowed us to settle & get into a rhythm with little threat coming back.

Everything was burbling along nicely & then in a flash Gundog received the ball swivelled past a couple of Hammers & played a beautiful curved ball into Haaland's path which he was second favourite for.

But what fuckin acceleration! I didn't realise until a couple of weeks ago that the Viking had the second top speed in the Bundesliga last season & he latched onto like the road runner, committing their keeper for the penalty which he slotted away with aplomb!

In the second half, WHU came at us after the whistle & it looked like our half time cake & tea was still settling in our stomachs. We were sloppy in our passing, lethargic & it gave the ball away too much which gee'd the Hammers up even more.... And then **BANG**!!!!!

Grealish wins the ball at left back, swerved past a player & played a beauty to Rodri who swept the ball onto KDB who took a couple of strides & made a stunning slide-rule pass straight into the path of the Viking who allowed the pace of the ball to drive us forward. He adjusted & opened up his body cooly slotted the ball home with a world class finish! This is EXACTLY what we've been missing up front since prime Aguero!

I thought KDB was a bit up & down, & Foden was a bit quiet.

Cancelo was brilliant & Walker excellent! I thought Aké acquitted himself brilliantly, & Rodri was imperious.

However I've got to reserve a special mention for Grealish & Gundog, who I thought were both superb!

MoTM must go to Haaland for the two goals & the fact he did exactly what I was calling for last week by dropping deep & getting more involved in the build up play like Kane does. This is EXACTLY what he needs to do to move on to the next level.

I think today we've adapted our play & met Haaland half way. He's dropping deeper & we're sliding balls through for him to latch on to.

All in all it was a brilliant first game of the season, so let's get a left back sorted & roll on next week. :-)

Grealish' finally ball is terrible
Rodri was absolutely outstanding
Haaland was what I expected. A true centre forward making the right move at the right time

Do not underestimate what an excellent win that was boys and girls. West ham are a very good and well organised side
Exactly, West Ham will be strong this season.

It's not a reasonable comparison at all. You can like him to Aguero who was an out and out striker.
The question was "Why is everyone bringing Raz into it?" I could have compared him to Aguero but that wasn't part of the question.

It a player to player comparison, not a position to position one.

Great result that, if teams parked the bus last year then this one will be ridiculous. 1 game 2 goals for the Duke, teams will be shitting it.
