West Ham United (A) | Sun 7th Aug | Post Match Thread

Ever the pessimist, I expected a hard-fought draw but the lads played some good stuff, comfortable as you like it. My personal highlight was Alvarez twatting cnut-gob Zouma straight on his cnut gob with the ball in the dying minutes. Future legend in the making he is, our Julian.
Hopefully the blues in the ground reminded the cruel bastard how his cat felt. It was most deserving to see him cop it straight up the bracket.

Pep knows what he’s doing and gets the team ready for the first real game of the season then eh?

Who knew.

Great day out. Sat awaiting a huge pizza in the Barbican.

Probably just the space & time he had would have almost certainly led to a Sterling brain fart. Sterling was never good when presented with enough time to think, when it was done instinctively he generally did well. Whereas as soon as we saw him skin the defender everyone expected haaland to score.
Left footed finishes one on one always look a bit more clinical. But Erling really has that extra accuracy. One of the things about a striker having a really powerful shot is that he can just tickle the ball, and it's more than fast enough.

His closest comparison for me - forget Ronaldo (nonono, he could dribble round 10)... or Henry (not just quick, but faster over 5 yards than a scalded rat)... is Christian Vieri. Vieri was a better all rounder by the time he reached 25, 26 - someone who could score over and over with his. Erling is hopefully going to learn that. Regardless, he does look more powerful AND faster than Vieri - it's the style tho, that is extremely similair, in no small part because they're both left footed.

Had some friends over so had the game on the second screen with sound off. Every time I looked up cancelo and Walker were DMs? Looking forward to finding a tactical breakdown of the game because that looked amazing.

Can I just be honest, I’m still not convinced with Haaland.

I’ve seen Mahrez score that type of penalty, and Sterling bury those one on ones with the keeper.

fuck … just couldn’t stop myself laughing at my own post.
He was getting grief in the match thread from the experts on here. There's a few on here with a clear agenda against him. Which I find sad. But there you go, that's their choice.
Ignorance rather than agenda. He plays the way Pep wants him

Grealish had a much better second half than he did the first half along with Cancelo. I'd say they were told at HT to buck up, It was more so giving the ball away sloppy in the first half. The second half he used the ball well and was making good runs in behind he was also able to play higher up the pitch in the second half instead of having to constantly come deep for the ball in the first half.
So do you think he had a good game too?

Haaland is winning the golden boot. He is a monster. The KDB link up with Erling is beautiful. There were still a few moments where we should have played it through sooner but we did it far more than last week. Grealish and Walker were shit first half but were excellent second half. Rodri is soon be coming Busquets level class.
Amazing improvement over 2 years by Rodri. The Pep effect.

Because Raz got in them positions quite often and usually fluffed them. Other players have missed similar one on ones but Raz with his pace and his movement found himself through more times and because he isn't a natural striker and didn't have that killer instinct like Brut has he dilly dallied and usually got blocked or the chance went begging.
Or fell over his feet lol.

Nope, just you.
Thought as much....
