West Ham United (A) | Sun 7th Aug | Post Match Thread

I will watch it because I have been watching city since I was 4 years of age, season ticket holder in North stand, season ticket holder at coms/ etihad, yes heat first game etc, but we have played like this for a long time now, yes we have won trophies I get it, but sometimes it Is like watching paint dry, under mancini we were good and a joy to watch, these days it seems more about retention of the ball, can't argue with what we have won, but some days it seems tedious to watch
SNIFF!! SNIFF!!

The difference between him and sterling is on another planet if that had been sterling hands up who thinks he would score
That's the difference between a true striker and a winger with an eye for goal
Haaland got himself into position and took it first time
Sterling would have taken a touch, that would have taken him wide, then a second, by which time the keeper would have been right on top of him

He's a talented player but unfortunately he is one of those who does tend to spend a lot of time on the deck. It's frustrating when you see a big, strong player going over at the slightest touch and it's not good for the game. He should be better than that. He's not the only one of course.

Yeah he is a clearly talented player and a real unit of a man which is often seen as he physically bullies defenders but all of a sudden he becomes 6 stone wet through and a light breeze can send him off his feet.

Frustrating to watch.

One thing I also thought was notable yesterday, whilst we settle in with Erling, was the few times that players took the wrong option because they are always now looking to give it to him in promising positions - Gundo when he should have taken a shot, and also Phil had a great opportunity to get a shot away when cutting in.

It‘s a fine balance but going to be great when they are all on the same wavelength.

Thought the exact same thing!

i can excuse them for wanting to pass to the best striker on the planet, but your point is taken :)

actually beyond the settling period with Haaland, it's how the team responds/plays in the games where Haaland isn't playing and if they can switch in and out of that mentality of having a focal point striker.

In a world literally gone mad in relation to transfer costs, Haaland seems a bargain at the reported £50m. We haven’t spent that cumulatively on transfers since we were founded in 1123.

I hope we don’t get you in the CL. It would be a shame fucking up your impetus by hammering you home and away. ;)

My comment at the time was " they can't expect Haaland to score ALL the goals"

I thought exactly the same (you can add Kev to that too) I’m also interested to see how easily we slip back into our old ways, no striker etc

It looked like we were not playing with such a high defensive line.

And Walker was in midfield most of the time.

Are we going to play like this regularly or was Pep setting us up just for West Ham?

hard to know with Pep but it worked beautifully! Another tactical masterclass that even Moyes admitted that Pep outdone him with something new again!

Whats the alvarez cat reference?

20 assists this season for Kevin?
I wouldn't beat against it...

That 2nd goal and the pass from KDB was what we were all talking about when we first signed Haaland
it was the picture I built up in my head in KDB feeding Haaland, it must be a nightmare for defenders seeing that yesterday,

but one thing I may add is I hope we don't become a one-man team and players just looking for Haaland
yes it's great and wonderful seeing it in full flow, But Haaland is not superman, we have plenty of goals in the squad before Haaland, so maybe keep them specials passes and goals in reserve for much bigger games

Haaland is the Viking, Ireland is superman
