Because they’re playing up front, basically. It’s a 2-3-5 and they’re closer to Haaland than to Rodri, Walker and Cancelo most of the time

Gündy’s main instruction today seemed to be to run in behind while Villa’s defenders were marking Haaland. He’s not really getting on the ball in the middle of the park

Bizarre not to move Bernie into midfield at half time
 
I thought he had a very good firdt half but villa had two men occupying his space with the intention of disrupting our build up. Pushing cancelo and/or walker in there too just congested it further. He Made a bad mistake that we got away with. But on the whole our formation was a gift to villa. Difficult for him today.

Rodri has been absolute class this season. Pep is tweaking the system it will take 10+ games for it to finally click.

Agreed Gundogan and KDB 'offer fuck all help' Rodri is either alone in the middle of the park or playing alongside a one-dimensional RB doing a very bad Lahm impression.

In away games it doesn't take much for the home crowd to inject their players with confidence, a loose ball here and a misplaced pass and suddenly the whole stadium are on their feet, suddenly we're overrun in midfield and momentum has swung. Exactly what happened vs Newcastle and Villa, it's for Pep to find a solution, I don't think we're playing bad, I prefer KDB as a traditional #8 hes recently morphed into a right sided #10 but with Haaland up top does he need to play so high? Bernardo has been good on the wing recently but away games and big games at the Etihad should be playing in midfield.
 
Can't believe I read tweets about him being worse than Ged Brannan a few years ago.

Best defensive midfield player in the world. Would not swap him for anyone.

Just said in motm thread - He is everywhere on the pitch and reads the game so well.
I'm just glad he stays as fit as he does because we'd be fucked without him.
 
MOTM, captain’s performance. He was the leader out there today. Bollocked everybody in the team at some point for doing stupid things.

Spread the play well opening the pitch for the first goal and made some vital interceptions from dangerous Wolves attacks at 0-1 and 0-2.
